RACECOURSE

ON Sunday the Clark’s Gift Salon Triples was held, with a good field of 66 bowlers from Lake Boga, Nyah District, Murray Downs, Swan Hill, Manangatang and Tooleybuc participating. The winners, with three wins and 76 points and winning on countback, were Graeme Bennett, Peter Snel and Marg Smith. Neil Roberts, Kevin Vivian and Bob McIntosh came second, while in third place, on 60 points, were Clive Power, Kaye Roberts and Max Parsons (Lake Boga).

Jackpot bowls on Wednesday was won by Glenn McIntosh, Kaye Roberts and Michael Grace (Tooleybuc) with two wins and +19 shots. Runners-up, on one win and +12 shots, were Trevor Wiseman, Bev McCartney (Murray Downs) and Peter Holland.

On Sunday we have Pennant practice for all our members, so please come along by noon for a 12.30pm start.

On Thursday, September 22, bowlers will visit from Geelong and the club would like to have 50 of our bowlers come along and play against them. It is a great day of bowls and a wonderful chance to meet new people. Lunch will be at 11am, with bowls to begin at 12.30pm.

Don’t forget our ladies’ tournament on September 28, sponsored by Marraboor Pharmacy.

At Wednesday night’s club AGM to elect a new board for the upcoming year, Norm Smith was re-elected president, Robert Hayes secretary and Peter Koetsveld treasurer. The committee members re-elected were Lorraine Loats and Bruce Horsburgh, with new members being Helen Frame, John Beard and John Ford. Thanks to past board members and those who put their names up for this year.


SWAN HILL

THE team of B. Richardson, A. Hill and K. Grey were the winners of social bowls this Wednesday.

Depending on the weather conditions, Friday Frolic will be on again with a 3pm start, with the greens ending up under water after spring rains last Friday. Even if the bowls doesn’t go ahead, happy hour and the raffles will still be on.

Club coach Brian is organising a club practice match on Sunday, with everyone asked to arrive by 12.30pm for a 1pm start. If rain disrupts plans, Brian would be happy to have a chat with prospective Pennant players in the clubhouse.

On Wednesday, September 21, is the Geelong Friendship Tour for lunch and social bowls. Bowlers are required to mix in with the 47 visitors for social bowls, which will start at 1pm.

Don’t forget RSL Diggers Day on Sunday, September 25. More teams are required for this event to go ahead, contact Bill King on 0428 324 083 for details.

On Saturday, October 1, a practice game against Kerang is planned. This will start at 11am, with one game of 12 ends played before a barbecue lunch and will be followed by a second game. Pennant is not far away and intending players need all the practice they can get. Sheets for these events are on the noticeboard, please register your interest.

Weekly practice with the coach is on Thursday nights at 4pm.

President Brian and Swan Hill bowlers were saddened to learn of the passing of loyal and dedicated member Peter Hutchison. Peter enjoyed many years of bowling at Swan Hill Bowls Club and we extend our sympathy to Peter’s family and close friends.


LAKE BOGA

ON Saturday September 10, players travelled to Cohuna for a social game of bowls. Everyone had a great day out, with Danny Kelly’s rink being the best for the day. Wednesday winners were Basil McDonald, Jeannie Leach, Brian Fowles and Ken Hamill, while the runners-up were Bill King, Jordie Tolius, Shirley Swan and David Condy. On Tuesday September 20 we are having a visit from Geelong bowlers – please put your names on the board for a social game with our visitors.

Pennant competition will start on Saturday, October 8, and Tuesday, October 13, with Lake Boga to enter one team in Division 1, 3 and 4. On Tuesday one team each will ne entered in Division 1 and 2. Everyone please put your name on the board to play.

On Saturday bowlers will travel to Wycheproof for a social day. We’ll leave Lake Boga Bowls Club at 11.15am. Anyone wanting to play should ring Rod Wickham on 0447 382 007. All are welcome.

Happy birthday to Janet and Ken Hamill and Noel Hender for the September.

On Friday, September 23, the Kerang Golf Bowls will visit us for a game, with a barbecue lunch at noon before the game.
