Bowls season under way

CRICKET might have succumbed to the rain, but that wasn’t the case for bowls, with the Murray Valley Bowls Division kick-starting their season on Saturday afternoon.

Defending champions Murray Downs began where they left off last season, recording a comfortable 10-2 victory over Swan Hill Racecourse.

Racecourse skipper Norman Smith kept the scores respectable, winning his team’s rink by 30 shots to 16.

But it wasn’t enough, with Murray Downs being led superbly by captains Joshua Thornton and John Caldwell on the other rinks.

Caldwell’s team won their rink by 16 shots in a dominant display.

Moulamein and Lake Boga also secured easy wins with 12-0 triumphs.

Moulamein won all three rinks in their comprehensive victory over Nyah District.

It was a similar story for Lake Boga as they dominated two of the three rinks, with Ken Hamill and Peter Philip leading the way in the win against Swan Hill.

Moulamein will face Lake Boga next week in a top-of-the-table clash.
