SWAN HILL

SWAN Hill bowlers were in good form last Saturday and the results certainly were a great improvement, with all three teams recording good wins on their home greens. Over a total of eight rinks, only one rink fell short of a win, which was a fine effort by all players.

On Saturday, Division 1 will meet last season’s grand finalists and rivals Murray Downs 1, for a tough battle. Division 2 will travel to Manangatang and usually have a tough tussle on Manangatang’s home turf.

Swan Hill Division 4 have taken a leap into Division 3, giving more players the opportunity to play and exchanging places with Murray Downs 5. Unfortunately, our team loses all their points gained in Division 4 and will start from scratch in Division 3. This will be a challenge and will require grit and determination, as they face off against Racecourse 4 this week at Racecourse.

A correction to last week’s report for social bowls, the winners were Alan Marshman and Kessada Smith, not Graeme Clark and Ken Grey as reported. This Wednesday, Kessada Smith paired with Ralph Dorigo and again took home the prizemoney. Get your names in before 1pm for social bowls.

The Friday Frolic jackpot had reached a handy sum last week and Esther Grey, June Sibley and Heather Smith went home very happy. Friday Frolic is very popular and well supported, with names to be in by 2.30pm. All are welcome to join in and participate in the activities in the clubhouse at the end of the game.

On Sunday, our Inaugural Melbourne Cup Calcutta is happening at Swan Hill Bowls Club, with a 1pm start. Call Mick on 0428 553 013 for more details. There is still time to enter or just come along for a fun afternoon.

Our Melbourne Cup Day lunch will be on Tuesday, November 2, providing enough people put their names on the noticeboard by Saturday evening. A two-course lunch, chicken and salads, sweets, a free glass of bubbly or orange juice will cost $25. A short game of bowls after lunch for those wishing to play before the running of the cup, which will be followed by afternoon tea, along with a cup sweep and novelty prizes. Members should bring a plate, sweet or savoury.

Midweek Pennant players should note next week’s round is played on Wednesday, the day after cup day. This probably means there will not be enough for social bowls.

LAKE BOGA

NEXT Tuesday we have our Melbourne Cup Day lunch, with a chicken and champagne lunch as well as competitions, best dressed lady and gent and a game of bowls for those that would like to. Please put your name on the notice board, or let Ken know by contacting him on 0408 591 256.

Next Wednesday we have Midweek Pennant due to Melbourne Cup on Tuesday. Social bowls will be in the afternoon at 1pm.

Any member wanting to play in the club singles, please put your names on the list, as we will be doing the draw in the next week. The first night of barefoot bowls will start next Thursday, with a 7.30pm start. All are welcome, please have your names in by 7pm, for more information, call Nola on 0427 372 484.

Please note that there has been a change in teams for Division 3 and 4, with Swan Hill 3 now playing in Division 3 and Murray Downs 5 in Division 4. There will be revised draws available at the club for those divisions.

Weekend Pennant Teams – Saturday

TOOLEYBUC

OUR players had a day off from bowls in last Saturday’s Weekend Pennant, with the Murray Downs 5 team forfeiting to Tooleybuc. On Saturday the club plays at Racecourse against Racecourse 3.

No bowls was played on Tuesday either, as Midweek Pennant was cancelled due to weather clossing greens. Next week, Midweek Pennant will be played on Wednesday because of the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, with Tooleybuc travelling to Manangatang.

In a great effort, D. Adams and T. Armstrong finished runners-up in the Ladies’ State Pairs last Sunday. The ladies won two out of their three games played, the same as the eventual winners, however the margins were not quite as good. Well done.
