HELEN Frame and Kaye Roberts won the 60 and Over Ladies’ Pairs played at Swan Hill last Thursday, while Noelene Weir and Di Angus finished runners-up. In the men’s event, Ken Hamill and Ken O’Bree advanced straight to the grand final, while the Racecourse pairings of Norm Smith and Graeme Bennett and Neville Smith and John Ford, will play off in the semi-final.

SWAN HILL

SWAN Hill bowlers were unable to continue on their winning ways last Saturday and it was a reversal of the previous week. Division 1 managed one winning rink against the top side Murray Downs, while Division 2 battled on the Manangatang greens and were unable to hold a rink. Our Division 3 team, having come up from Division 4, put in a gallant effort against Racecourse 4, with two rinks very close to taking out the points – there’s no doubt about it, sport is a great leveller.

Division 1 will be attempting to get back into form at Nyah, while Division 2 will head over the bridge to play Murray Downs 3 and are expecting a tough match up. Swan Hill 3 will follow their Division 2 teammates and play Murray Downs 4 at Murray Downs.

Both Swan Hill Midweek Pennant teams finished on a high on Wednesday, with both sides recording their first wins of the season against Lake Boga 1 and 2 in icy cold, windy conditions. The competition in midweek and Saturday pennant is of a high standard and no week is a guarantee.

Swan Hill Bowls Club cup day function was a very successful event, with almost 50 people enjoying a chicken and bubbly lunch. Sincere thanks to those who assisted in preparing and serving a delicious lunch and afternoon tea and to those who attended – even though the weather wasn’t the greatest for venturing out. The bright, friendly atmosphere in the clubhouse more than made up for the weather, with our cup sweep proving very popular with some happy winners.

Thank you to a well organised couple for taking charge of this and to Danny for preparing the greens, even though the rain came and prevented the bowls taking place. A few had a practise when the sun shone later in the afternoon, along with visiting families trying out bowls.

A forecast 20 degrees for Friday should see bowlers on the green for our Friday Frolic and gaining some practice for Saturday. All are welcome, with names to be in by 2.30pm, or just come along for happy hour and Mick’s raffles.

LAKE BOGA

A GREAT day was had at our Melbourne Cup lunch on Tuesday, with the fashion winners being Amber Moynihan, Evelyn Mortimer, Reg Packer and Mike Moynihan.

We have a full field for our Skins Day this Sunday at this stage – if we don’t have any more rain to hinder people being able to travel here.

Social bowls on Wednesday was held as well as the Midweek Pennant. On duty next Wednesday is Max Lord. We need the ladies to enter the singles competition – please put your name on the board, as we have to get the games played very soon.

TOOLEYBUC

LAST Saturday, Tooleybuc played Racecourse 3 at Racecourse and despite battling hard all day, Racecourse were too strong and won all three rinks. Our players are aiming for better results tomorrow when they play Racecourse 4. The game will be played at Racecourse, due to Tooleybuc greens not being ready. Midweek Pennant was cancelled at Manangatang this week due to inclement weather and the players will no doubt be keen to play next week, which will be against Murray Downs 3 at Murray Downs.
