MVPA

IN the MVPA State Triples, played at Lake Boga on Sunday, Judy Wilson, Teresa Furnell and Noelene Weir (Murray Downs) won the women’s event from Racecourse’s Mikaela Evans, Kylie Gardner and Helen Frame 18/16. This capped a very successful four-title haul for Wilson, who also saluted in the State Fours, Pairs and Mixed Pairs.

In the men’s event, which was an all-Racecourse affair, Norm Smith, Glenn McIntosh and Graeme Bennett won 19/11 from Mark Snel, DJ Weaver and John Ford.

Smith also made it four titles for this season – State Singles and Triples, and Over 60 Singles and Pairs.

The last of the state events for this calendar year will be the Novice Singles, with the men’s and women’s categories to be played at Racecourse on Sunday, December 18. Entries close on Monday, December 12.

All clubs are encouraged to get their club singles finished in preparation for the Champion of Champions event on Saturday, January 7.


MURRAY DOWNS

SOCIAL bowls last Thursday was a pleasant day with a good number of bowlers in attendance.

Winners were Neil Brown, Som Pascoe and Sharon Giddings. Runners-up on a count-back were Darryl Barry, Lindsay Toomer and Joe Sapuppo, a very close result.

The Murray Valley Playing Area Triples was held last Sunday at Lake Boga.

The Murray Downs ladies team of Teresa Furnell, Noelene Weir and Judy Wilson won this event and will go on to play at the region finals in March.

Our Christmas party will be held on December 17 at the John Mayers Pavilion.

Members wishing to attend, please put your name on the board by Thursday, December 15 for catering purposes.

Murray Downs Division 1 Saturday Pennant team will play against Swan Hill at Murray Downs tonight. It is scheduled for a 5.30pm assembly for a 5.45pm start.

Food and beverages will be available at the club for all who would like to come along and watch. Should be some great bowling.

RACECOURSE

CONGRATULATIONS to Norm Smith, Glenn McIntosh and Graeme Bennett for their success in the State Triples last Sunday.

Very well done to Mark Snel, DJ Weaver and John Ford, who also made the final.

Mikaela Evans, Kylie Gardner and Helen Frame fought out a great game against their Murray Downs’ opponents, losing by a mere two shots.

Winners of Jackpot bowls on Wednesday were Glenn McIntosh, Bob McIntosh and Neil Williams, with two wins and +12 shots.

Runners-up, with one win and +12 shots, were Bryan Bice and Helen Frame.

Jack Attack night bowls saw Leftovers successful on Wednesday.

Liam Mulcahy, Kevin Glen and Shane Domaille comprised the winning side.

Next week is the last night for this year. There will be a barbeque tea, starting at 6pm, with bowls to follow.

Our Christmas party is tomorrow night after bowls. There will be raffles and members’ draw, with the major prize a luscious Christmas cake, made and decorated by Sue Harrop.

WINNERS of barefoot bowls last Thursday were Old Buggers, Barry and Brenda Thompson, Trevor Pumpa and Danny Kelly.

Runners-up were Woorinen Wranglers, Greg and Barb Lewis, Trevor Rowlands, and Tony Bloom.

On duty for social bowls next week is Danny Kelly.

The Christmas break up is on next Saturday, December 17. Please put your names on the list at the clubhouse. Boh Dower is supplying the music for the night.

We are having a Pairs Tournament on Tuesday, December 27, with a barbecue tea at 5pm and bowls at 5.30pm, all are welcome contact Rod on 0447 382 007 for entries. Good prize money.

TOOLEYBUC

TOOLEYBUC hosted Swan Hill 3 in pennant last Saturday and with a much improved effort on all rinks, we were able to run out winners on the day by nine shots.

All rinks were a close contest with I. Hickey and J. Armstrong winning their rinks and M. King’s rink going down only by one shot.

This week sees us with a tough challenge against ladder leaders Racecourse 3 at Tooleybuc and hopefully we can match last week’s effort.

Midweek pennant was played at Lake Boga on Tuesday and again it was a close contest on both rinks.

G. Molloy’s rink was all level going into the last end and managed to score four shots to take the win.

T. Armstrong’s rink went down by one shot as it came down to Lake Boga’s last bowl on the last end to score them the win.

Overall Tooleybuc defeated Lake Boga by three shots. Next week Tooleybuc will play at home against Murray Downs 5.
