GOOD news! Moulamein will play its first matches in four weeks on Saturday as the town recovers from the flooding emergency.

The novice singles will be played at Racecourse Bowls Club on Sunday, December 18, with the matches starting at 9.30am and being the first to 21 shots.

The men’s event has four starters. Damien McBeath (Swan Hill) will play Russell Fields (Swan Hill) and Clark Jenkins (Nyah District) faces Rod Dewhurst (Lake Boga).

Youngster Alannah Taylor (Manangatang) will play Laurel Dewhurst (Lake Boga) in the first game and Kerrie Jenkins (Nyah District) takes on Linda Gordon (Nyah District) in the other.

The finals will be played after the first matches are decided.

Clubs are reminded to get their Champion of Champions representatives’ names to Josh Thornton as soon as possible. The closing date for entries to this competition is Monday, January 2. Matches will start on Saturday, January 7, and the finals will be played on the Sunday.

Murray Downs

OUR annual Turkey Day was held last Thursday, with a good number of bowlers taking part.

The winning team was Peter Furnell, Cath Parry and John Templeton.

Runners-up was the team of John Alderuccio, Ceil McCaig and Neville Martin.

Last Friday night the Division 1 team played against Swan Hill Bowls Club under lights, resulting in a great win by Murray Downs.

The Ladies and Men’s A Grade Singles club final will be played this afternoon at 3pm.

Teresa Furnell will play Lisa Critten in the Ladies’ final, and Buc Lehmann will play Garry McCaig in the Men’s final. Good luck to all finalists.

Our final matches before Christmas will be played tomorrow, followed by our Christmas party. A very Merry Christmas to all bowlers, and a safe and Happy New Year.

Lake Boga

LAST Thursday’s barefoot bowls winners were JAFT, Quinton Graham, Neville Graham, Ken Veale and Andy Ferguson.

Runners-up were OLD BUGGERS, Danny Kelly, Trevor Pumpa, Kevin Pye and Steve Pye.

Wednesday’s social bowls winners were John McCormack, Richard Bruton and Jeannie Leach. On duty next week is Shirley Swan.

Don’t forget the Christmas break-up tomorrow night – please bring a salad to share. Great music by Boh Dower.

Tooleybuc

THIS week we start our notes by congratulating our Club Champions for this season. Last Sunday, the Men’s and Ladies’ finals were played in hot conditions.

In the Men’s, Ian Hickey overcame a very determined Aaron Adams and, in the Ladies, Dannielle Adams played Lilian Fox in two outstanding games.

This is Dannielle’s seventh consecutive championship, which is a great achievement.

Congratulations to both the winners and runners-up. Ian and Dannielle will now represent themselves and the club at the Champion of Champions at Murray Downs on January 7.

Last Saturday, Pennant was played at Tooleybuc against ladder leaders Racecourse 3, who showed why they are on the top of the ladder with a strong win.

Tomorrow, Tooleybuc will play Racecourse 4. This game will be played at Tooleybuc.

Our Midweek team had a good win over Murray Downs 5, winning both rinks and 11 shots up overall.

Congratulations to T. Armstrong’s team of G. Molloy, L. Fox and M. Grace, who managed to achieve eight shots in one of the ends.

The midweek pennant will now break until January 10. All from Tooleybuc wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Racecourse

CONGRATULATIONS to Robbie Hayes. He was rewarded for his hard work for the club with a life membership.

Robbie started his career with the club in 1989, became Secretary in 1990 and has been a constant force since then. He has been secretary of the new board since 2010 and is still a tireless worker. Well done from all the members.

Wednesday Jackpot social bowls were won by Arthur Threadgold, Helen Frame and Ken Duthie, with a fantastic score of two wins and +38 shots. In second place, with one win and +5 shots, were Ian Lockhart, Elaine Lawry and Peter Hooper.

Jack Attack played its final games for 2022 on Wednesday night. The winners were Neville Graham, Jackson McNees and Darcy McNees. Overall winners for this season were The Lads 1 – Darcy Winduss, Scott Treweek and Jye Wilson.

Our next tournament will be on Australia Day, January 26. It’s the Peter and Mary Hooper Any Combo Triples, 12.30pm start.

The club will provide pizzas for tea after pennant bowls to end the 2022 year tomorrow night. To accommodate the away teams, tea will start about 7pm.

Swan Hill

SATURDAY Pennant, tomorrow, will see all three Swan Hill Bowls teams playing at home.

Division 1 play Nyah and will be looking for a better result than when they played Murray Downs under lights last Friday night.

Division 2 won all three rinks last Saturday against Manangatang after a loss to Balranald the previous week. They will face off against Murray Downs Three tomorrow.

Division 3 continues to only go down by a few shots each week, having won one rink each of the last two Saturdays. Our team 3 will have a challenge on their hands against Murray Downs Four tomorrow.

Tomorrow night there will be a barbecue after bowls, being the last round of pennant till after Christmas. All are welcome to attend.

Tuesday was the last Midweek pennant game until January 10. Both Division One and Two finished on a high, with wins against Lake Boga One and Manangatang, respectively, and similar results, one rink up, one rink down, and three shots win overall.

Social Bowls winners on Wednesday, December 7, were B. Quaife, F. Burge and R. Dorigo.

The jackpot will be cracked after Friday Frolic tonight, as it will keep being drawn until a winner has the right number. Make sure your name is in by 2.30pm for a 3pm start. All may join in for bowls and social activities afterwards.

Entries for Graeme Hayes Real Estate President’s Night is only three days away. The closing time to put your team or single entry in is 1pm, Monday the 19th, starting time is 5pm.

There will be an ongoing sausage sizzle from 4.30pm and a light supper at the end of the evening. Generous prizes, first $300, second $200, third $100 per team.
