MVPA

THE Champion of Champions Singles was played last Sunday. Mary Hooper (Racecourse) was successful in the women’s match, beating Dannielle Adams of Tooleybuc 25/20.

The men’s champion, after multiple wins in previous years, was Buck Lehmann of Murray Downs. Buck defeated Brian Mansbridge (Swan Hill) 25/17.

Both champions will play in the regional finals in March, against players from Sunraysia, Tyrrell and Northern District.

Murray Valley teams for Sunday’s Murray Mallee regional round robin, to be played at Murray Downs starting at 9.30am are as follows.

Women’s Team 1: J Wilson, L Critten, R Schack, D Weaver; Team 2: D Adams, W Murphy, S Coe, N Weir; Team 3: T Armstrong, L Taylor, V Lindsay, K Roberts; Team 4: K Gardner, M Evans, A Taylor, H Frame.

Early notice for players in the Regional 60 & Over Singles and the Novice Singles. Matches in these categories will be played at Murray Downs on Sunday, January 22.


Murray Downs

CONGRATULATIONS to Teresa Furnell and Buck Lehmann winning the Murray Downs A Grade Ladies and Men’s Championships recently.

They went on to play last weekend at the Champion of Champions where Teresa had a close match, going down to Wendy Murphy.

Buck took out the championship, defeating Brian Mansbridge in the final. Congratulations to Buck on a wonderful achievement.

The Club Championship draws for Mixed Pairs, Men’s 100 up and Men’s B Grade singles are on the notice board. Please arrange to play your matches as soon as possible.

Social bowls last week was well attended with 42 bowlers taking part. Winners were Darryl Barry, Greg Robertson and Joe Sapuppo. Runners-up were Di Angus, Graeme Steele and Cath Parry.

A reminder to enter your team for Barefoot Bowls commencing February 7 at 7pm and finishing on April 11. Contact Shorty on 0413 188 261 to enter your team.

Our Murray Downs President’s Day Tournament will be held on Sunday, February 12 at 12.30pm, mixed combination. Entries to Dawne Holland on 0402 020 996 or Carl Fox on 0429 855 260.

Racecourse

CONGRATULATIONS to Mary Hooper, who played a superb game to win her second Champion of Champions title on Sunday.

She defeated Dannielle Adams of Tooleybuc 25/20.

Jackpot bowls has moved to Wednesday mornings to accommodate the summer weather. Names in by 9am for a 9.30am start.

Night bowls commences again on Wednesday, January 25, at 7pm. Names to be in by 6.45pm.

On Australia Day, January 26, we have the Peter and Mary Hooper Any Combo Triples. The games start at 1pm, with names in by 11am.

Friday, January 27, is our Last Friday of the Month tea. Sharon needs numbers, so if you are coming, please put your name on the board by January 23.

Swan Hill

CONGRATULATIONS to our club champion, Brian Mansbridge, on making it through to the final of the Champion of Champions last weekend.

Brian was edged out by a few shots by his Murray Downs opponent, Buck Lehmann. Diane Millsteed came up a few shots short to be defeated by the eventual winner of the Ladies’ championships, Mary Hooper. A fine effort by both our champions.

Midweek pennant resumed on Tuesday after the Christmas break. Teams started half an hour earlier to beat the heat. Division 1 was in good form defeating Racecourse 1 on both rinks. Division 2 returned from Tooleybuc smiling, having an overall win, with one rink up and one down.

Saturday pennant is due to recommence tomorrow, which could depend on the weather forecast and the heat rule. All will be anxious to return to the greens with only five rounds left.

Division 1 plays Lake Boga at the Lake, while Division 2 crosses the bridge to play Murray Downs 2 and Division 3 also head to Lake Boga to take on Boga 3. All the best to our bowlers for the rest of the season.

Friday Frolic was back in action last Friday with a good roll-up. Today will be a bit dicey weather-wise. However, still, come along for happy hour refreshments (good weather for a cool drink).

Enter Mick’s raffles and support your club. An excellent chance to catch up with your teammates after the holiday break.


Tooleybuc

SATURDAY pennant resumes this week pending on decision made due to the forecasted heat, so it may be an earlier start. Tooleybuc will play at home against Murray Downs 4.

Midweek pennant resumed on Tuesday, and Tooleybuc played against Swan Hill 2. Both sides won one rink each. However, Swan Hill 2 won overall by six shots.

The next game is against Racecourse 3 at Tooleybuc, so let’s try to give it everything and have a win. All at Tooleybuc Bowls Club would like to congratulate Ian Hickey and Dannielle Adams on their efforts in the Champion of Champions played last weekend.

Great bowls were played, and both players did themselves and the club proud. Dannielle won through to the grand final and, in a close match, 20-25, was runner-up to Mary Hooper from Racecourse.

Good luck to Dannielle Adams and Tricia Armstrong on Sunday, who are playing in the Regional Round Robin sides for the Murray Valley Playing Area at Murray Downs.

Lake Boga

HAPPY new year to all bowlers and all the best for the rest of the season.

Last Thursday’s barefoot bowls winners were Mosquitos Rod and Laurel Dewhurst and Geoff and Tina King.

Runners up were Mallee ring-ins Jeannie and Ray Leach, Macca Neil and Chloe Davis.

Social Bowls winners on Wednesday were Ken Hamill, Les Grey and Lyn Maher.

The runners-up were Greg Clifford, Ron Atkinson and Ray Halligan.

A reminder that we have our Australia Day twilight bowls tournament on Friday, January 27.
