SWAN HILL
SWAN Hill Bowls Club held its annual general meeting on Thursday, June 1, with a good attendance of members.
In his report, retiring president Brian Richardson thanked all who helped him during his two years in office and said the club was in a healthy position. He said one of the great joys of being a member of the Swan Hill Bowls Club was the interaction with members, whether it be for a cuppa, cold drink, playing bowls or a friendly chat and rated these things as the most important aspect of the club.
He thanked secretary Bill, treasurer Robin, board members and all committees and volunteers who give freely of their time to the club.
A vote of thanks was moved to Brian and received with acclamation.
Mick Balchin was voted into the role of president for the coming year, reversing roles with Brian, who will assist Mick as vice-president.
Bill King remains as secretary, Robin Poole as treasurer, while the additional board members are Vic Plumridge and Lynda King, with committees as elected.
Congratulations to Lyndon Shadbolt on being selected for and playing in the successful Murray Mallee team at the 2023 Victorian Region Sides Championships, held at Echuca and Moama recently.
Murray Mallee made it through the competition undefeated, winning gold in the silver tier.
Lyndon proudly displayed his gold medal at the club on Friday night and did not let it out of his sight. The team is automatically promoted to the gold tier next year and will be aiming high in 2024.
Our presentation night was held at the RSL Club last Sunday night, with everyone enjoying a meal and social get together.
Prizes were presented by president Mick Balchin and secretary Bill King, the winners being:
Ladies’ Club Champion – Diane Millsteed, runner-up – Esther Grey (no other ladies’ events were held).
Men’s Club Champion – Brian Mansbridge, runner-up – Brian Quaife.
B Grade Championship – Rod Wardle, runner-up – Jim Thompson.
100 Up – Rod Wardle, runner-up – Brian Richardson.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the men’s pairs final still has to be finalised.
Weather permitting, Friday Frolic will be on at 3pm today.
The rain should be gone and, although it could be a bit on the cool side, the game only goes for an hour.
Mick’s sought-after raffle prizes will be there to be won regardless, so come and enjoy the social atmosphere.
It is with sadness we learnt of the passing of past members Robert Irvine and Lance Steer recently. Both were good members and played in premiership teams for the Swan Hill Bowls Club.
President Mick and members extend their sympathy to their families.
