MURRAY DOWNS

THE Murray Downs opening tournament will be held on Sunday, September 3 from 12.30pm, an any-combination three-bowl triples event with three games of 10 ends each.

Call Dawne Holland on 0402 020 996 or Carl Fox on 0429 855 260 to enter, with entries to close at 5pm on September 2.

The Murray Downs Classic Two Bowls Triples event will be held on September 19 and 20, with $5000 in prizemoney on offer.

Call Brian Lehmann on 0427 902 201 or Garry McCaig on 0413 188 261 to enter, with entries to close on September 15.

Club members were saddened to lose two bowling mates recently, Joe Sapuppo and Mal Kanizay.

Joe was a dear friend to many at the club, while Mal was a long-time member who played a huge role in getting our club to where it is today, having held several positions during his time.

Mal will always be remembered for his friendly and helpful nature and both will be missed around the club.

RACECOURSE

RACECOURSE Bowls Club held its annual Ash Roberts Homes’ triples tournament, with 24 teams participating last Sunday, while the Shepparton Bowls Shop pop-up was also in attendance with bowls wear and equipment.

The winners for the day were Graeme Bennett, Lois Lockhart and Roy Jones with three wins, while the runners-up were Murray Downs bowlers Peter Furnell, Teresa Furnell and Mick Tempini.

Finishing third was a mixed team comprising Allan Marshman (Swan Hill), Mick Grace (Tooleybuc) and Ernie Russell (Racecourse).

Jackpot Bowls on Wednesday was well attended, with 40 players enjoying the sunshine, with Bryan Bice, Lois Lockhart and Roy Jones finishing victorious with two wins and +17 shots.

The runners-up, with one win and +18 shots, were Trevor Wiseman, Kaye Roberts and Peter Hooper.

The Friday night tea has been put back a week to September 1, because several club members are playing bowls at Euston  on Friday.

The Clarks Gift Salon Skins Triples Tournament will be on Sunday, September 10, followed by a practice match against Kerang in Kerang on Sunday, September 17.

Put your name on the board as soon as possible as the club has hired a bus for the day.

SWAN HILL

THERE is still time to get team or single entries in for the Swan Hill Bowls Clubs Opening Day Tournament on Sunday.

The day is being held in conjunction with the RSL Diggers Day, which will start at noon with an RSL stand-to ceremony, with the format being an any-combination two-bowl triples, with three games of 10 ends each.

Prizemoney of $1000 is on offer, with first, second and third prizes to be awarded, as well as entry money back for the best winning team in each game.

To enter, call Bill King on 0428 324 083 no later than 9.30am Sunday or ring the club on 5032 1772.

Entry fees are $45 a team or $15 for a single entry, with members asked to bring a plate of afternoon tea. Raffle proceeds will be donated to Legacy.

Friday Frolic should draw a crowd on Friday, with a fine sunny day and bowlers keen to have practice for Sunday’s tournament.

Make sure names are in by 2.30pm, for a 3pm start and enjoy a pleasant afternoon of bowling and socialising at the club.

The jackpot returned to zero last Friday, with the team of D. Millsteed, R. Wardle and B. Dickenson claiming the winnings for lucky number drawn out.

Last Sunday 16 Swan Hill bowlers visited Quambatook for a competitive practice match, with Swan Hill winning the day 119 to 91. Everyone had a most enjoyable day of good bowling.

The best winning rink for the day was the team of Barry and Judy Husson, Owen Lewis and Nevan Green.

Several Swan Hill bowlers were also represented at Racecourse Bowls Club’s Ash Roberts Homes Tournament last Sunday, with Alan Marshman teaming up with E. Russell and M. Grace and taking out third prize.

LAKE BOGA

THE winners of Pelican Jackpot Bowls last Saturday were Graham Bennett, Lyndal Taylor (Racecourse) and David Condy (Lake Boga), while the runners-up were Brian Quaiffe (Swan Hill), Jean Leach and Keith Anderson (Lake Boga).

Resting touchers went to Max Parsons, who was celebrating his 93rd birthday, Rod Dewhurst, Sally Mehan and Bob McIntosh. With the jackpot failing to go off, it is set to reach $180.

Our last Pelican Jackpot for the season will be on Saturday, September 16, starting at 11.30am with a free barbecue lunch.

Come and enjoy our hospitality in what has been a very successful jackpot season.

All members are reminded that subs are now due and payable to the treasurer.

There are still vacancies for our opening day, sponsored by Parsons Bulk Haulage, on Saturday, September 2, which will be played as any-combination fours, with single or team entries most welcome.

Call Ken Hamill on 0408 591 256 or Danny Kelly on 0447 845 975 to enter.

We will be having a working bee at the club on Monday starting at 8.30am. Please let Ken know if you are available.

Mark in your diary that we are having two practice matches coming up before the pennant season starting. The first is against Cohuna Bowls Club on the Sunday, September 24, at Lake Boga and the second on Friday, September 29 against Kerang Golf at Kerang.
