SWAN HILL

THE Swan Hill Bowls Club greens are in top condition ready for the fast-approaching pennant season, with many thanks needing to go to our greenskeeper and volunteers that put in many hours of work.

Bowlers are enjoying the spring weather and practising in readiness for the upcoming 2023-24 season, with Friday Frolic being an ideal time to gain some friendly, challenging practice.

Enter your name by 2.30pm today and arrive in time for a 3pm start, with visitors and new bowlers most welcome to join in the fun.

Every winner receives a prize, while each bowler goes in the draw for the jackpot, while happy hour, snacks and Mick’s raffles make for some entertainment in the clubhouse after the game.

Entries are coming in for the Swan Hill Bowls Club Bowling Arm Classic, which is an honour-board event that is being held on Sunday, September 24.

The day will commence at 10.30am, with an any combination two-bowl triples format, with one game of 10 ends prior to lunch and two games by 10 ends after.

Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are all included in the $75 entry fee, with single entries being $25.

There is good prizemoney on offer for first, second and third, with money back for the highest winning score each game.

Please contact Bill King on 0428 324 083 or the bowls club on 5032 1772, to enter, or alternatively, names can also be placed on the notice board in the clubhouse.

LAKE BOGA

WE need to say a big thank you to the Swan Hill Rural City Council, who recently helped us attain a sporting grant, which combined with our club’s money, meant we were able to purchase a new greens roller, which is doing a great job.

A field of 45 players competed in Pelican Jackpot bowls last Saturday, with the winners being Bones Smith (Lake Boga), Alex Smith (City) and Phil Parry (Racecourse).

A reminder that this Saturday will be the last Pelican Jackpot for the season and will get underway with a free barbecue from 11.30am for all players.

The jackpot must go off and the prize is $160, so come along and enjoy the last jackpot for the season – you may win the money, if not the bowls.

Social bowls saw another big field on Wednesday, with the winners being Ron Atkinson and Les Grey, while the runners-up were Jenny Robinson, Jean Leach and Greg Davis.

We welcomed visitors from Birchip in Pauline and Roger Bragg and we hope they return for social bowls again.

A reminder that names need to be on the board for your availability for pennant and also the practice matches on both September 23 and September 30.

Next Wednesday, at 7.30pm, will be the next club meeting at the club house, please come along and support your club.
