MURRAY DOWNS

Social bowls last week was played in four seasons of weather, but 17 players managed to get through two games of 10 ends.

The winning team was Doug Fisher and John Forsyth (Hamilton visitor), while there was no jackpot winner.

Duty members next week are Carl and Betty Fox.

The Victorian State Fours Champions were played yesterday at the Joondalup Bowling Club, with our team of Josh, Buck, John and Garry playing against teams from South Australia, Tasmania and Queensland at 6pm last night, so there are no results at the time of printing.

Our congratulations go out to these four champions no matter the outcome, they have done Murray Downs proud.

Our Midweek pennant teams had very close games on Tuesday with a couple of cliff hangers, while our Saturday pennant teams finished with three wins out of four.

A big welcome to our new bowlers who have recently played their first games of pennant, it is lovely to see some fresh faces and members so keen to play.

RACECOURSE

Congratulations to Racecourse’s Ron Wolfe, Helen Frame, Norm Smith and Alannah Taylor, who have won through to the semi-finals of the mixed pairs.

Unfortunately, the two teams will have to play off against each other to see who plays the Evans duo from Moulamein.

Night social bowls kicked off on Wednesday night, with the winning team being K. Killers, which consists of Kieran Foott, Bruce Mitchell and Jackie Crawford, who won with two wins and +15 shots. Biscuits, cheese and raffles followed the bowls, with all participants enjoying the fun.

Our around the world casserole dinner party will be held on Friday, October 27, with names to be submitted on the board as soon as possible for catering purposes.

The draw for the men’s club singles championship is also on the board, with round 1 to be played before Friday, October 27.

SWAN HILL

True to my word, Friday the 13th proved lucky for many that attended the Swan Hill Bowls Club last Friday afternoon for both bowlers and non-bowlers.

Thirty three players enjoyed Friday Frolic, with 16 winners receiving a free drink voucher, while the jackpot was won for the third week in a row, making I. Lockhart, J. McStravick and Nevin Green very happy.

The prize may not be large, but at least the money is being spread around, with seven raffle winners on top of the jackpot making for a happy and fun afternoon for all who attended.

Visitors Eric, Diane, Peter, Judy, Daryl and Joan were all welcomed last Friday, as is everyone else this afternoon.

Friday Frolic will be on today at 3.00pm, with entries to be in by 2.30pm.

Division 1 put up a good front against Racecourse 1 last Saturday in pennant bowls, with B. Richardson’s rink gaining eight shots, but were unable to cover the other two rinks, with the team falling short by eight shots.

Swan Hill travel to Moulamein tomorrow and will be looking to return to the winners list with victory.

It was a similar story in Division 2 against Murray Downs 2, with J. Thompson’s rink winning by seven shots, while the other two rinks had a combined deficit of 14 shots, with the team falling seven shots short.

Our Division 2 team will head to Balranald this Saturday and will be trying for a win, while our Division 4 side will play their first game tomorrow at home, after a forfeit and a bye.

Midweek Division 1 found the going too tough on Tuesday against Racecourse 1, who were last seasons’ premiership side, going down on both rinks.

This Tuesday will be another challenge for Division 1, when Murray Downs 2 cross the river to visit Swan Hill.

Swan Hill’s Division 2 team are off to a flying start however, with another win this week against Manangatang.

M. Lay’s rink held it together with a 10 shot win, while new skipper, Kess and team only went down by one shot, making for a nine shot win overall.

Division 2 will play Murray Downs 3 at Murray Downs on Tuesday.

Good Bowling and best of luck to all teams.

LAKE BOGA

Moulamein proved too strong for our Division 1 team last Saturday going down by 14 shots. Danny Kelly’s rink proved to be the star performer with a plus 7 win a huge turn around from the week before.

Ken Hamills rink had a neck and neck battle all day going down on the last 2 ends finishing 2 down after 25 ends. Terry Haw’s rink had a battle against team 3 going down by 19.

Division 3 came home with the points with a plus 14 win. David Condy’s and Peter Snell’s rinks both had plus 8 wins. Marie O’Meara’s rink went down by just 2 shots after a very competitive game all day.

Our division 3 team stands out to be the team to beat in the division 3 competition this year.

Division 4 battled all day against Nyah, both rinks played well but ended with a 5 shot loss. Alex Jobling’s rink were down by 4 shots and Robyn Jolley’s rink down by 1 at the end of play.

Mid-week division 1 lost to Racecourse by 14 shots. Janet Hamill’s rink ended up 8 shots down with Marie O’ Meara’s team down by 6.

Jeanie Leach’s rink were the star performers in division 4 being 14 shots down on the 10th end, clawing their way back to being equal at the start of the last end, drawing 1 shot on the last end to win. The ever strong Shirley Swan’s rink had a 7 shot win giving Lake Boga 8 shot win.

Social bowls this week saw Les Grey, Keith Anderson, Janet Hamill and Greg Clifford win with plus 11 followed by the team of Tina King, Nola Bruton, Leigh Kingsbury and Danny Kelly with plus 5.

A great way for Tina King to start her bowling career with a win at her first social Bowls competition, welcome Tina.

TOOLEYBUC

Last Saturday saw Tooleybuc travel to Moulamein to play pennant in what were very windy conditions.

Despite our best efforts, we were unable to score a win, with Moulamein winning all three rinks 82 shots to 48, with tomorrow seeing us play Racecourse 3 at Racecourse.

The outcome for Midweek pennant was the opposite, with both rinks scoring a win against Racecourse 4 and winning by 10 shots.
