MURRAY DOWNS

THE social bowls winners last week were Peter Furnell, Mal Martin and Lindsay Toomer, while Elaine Lawry was the lucky winner of the jackpot, well done to all.

The members on duty next week are Greg Whitla and Garry McCaig.

Peter Brook and Chris Power are through to the Murray Valley Men’s State Pairs final, which will be played this Sunday, where they will play the winning pair of Buck Lehman and Matt O’Bree or Norm Smith and Glen McKissack, who play their match first.

Club matches are beginning to be played. If you entered, please watch the noticeboard and arrange to play your match as soon as possible.

Our Turkey Day will be held on Thursday, December 7, with a 12.30pm start time, played under a mixed triples format.

CONGRATULATIONS to Glenn McKissack and Norm Smith, who have made the semi-finals of the State Pairs, the club wishes you both good luck on Sunday.

Our next tournament will be the Country Care Hearing Any Combination Triples, which will be held on this Sunday, November 26, starting at 12.30pm.

Our Christmas party is on Saturday, December 9, with the sheet on the board for booking and catering.

Please note that there are a lot of club events which need to be played as soon as possible.

SWAN HILL

SWAN Hill Bowls Clubs midweek pennant players finished on a high on Tuesday, with both teams recording a win.

Division 1 defeated Racecourse 1 at Racecourse on both rinks, with D.Millsteed leading her rink to a four shot win, while J.Husson’s rink got home by two shots in a close and exciting game.

Division 2 were at home against Lake Boga 2, with K.Smith’s rink playing out a draw against S.Swan, while E.Grey’s rink had a resounding win against J.Leach, resulting in a 22 shot win overall for Swan Hill.

Next Tuesday, Swan Hill 1 meets Murray Downs 2 at Murray Downs, while Division 2 face Nyah District away.

Last Saturday’s Swan Hill Division 1 players showed improvement on the previous week, falling short by 12 shots to ladder leader Racecourse 1 at Racecourse.

G.McGrath’s rink defeated G.McKissick by nine shots, while G.Evans missed out by one shot, with N.Smith proving too good for B.Quaife.

Division 2 were unable to claim a rink against the stronger Murray Downs 2 outfit at Murray Downs. While Swan Hill gave it their best shot, A.Marshman missed out, making it a trifecta, but was the best performer on the day, going down by six shots.

In Division 4, Swan Hill 3 played at Lake Boga against their number 4 side, with D.McBeath’s rink winning by four shots, with D.Tompsett’s rink going down by six, leaving a shortfall of two shots.

Much encouragement should go to our Swan Hill 4 team, who continue to improve every week.

Tomorrow our Division 1 team play Moulamein at home, while Division 2 are also at home against Balranald and Division 4 venture out to Nyah, all set to be challenging matches.

Visitors from Berwick enjoyed a game of bowls at Friday Frolic last week, with all interested persons welcome to come and take part in today’s events.

Please enter by 2.30pm, ready to start at 3pm. The president is more than happy to welcome you in the clubhouse prior to and after the game.


LAKE BOGA

WEDNESDAY’S social bowls winners were Danny Kelly, Les Grey and Max Parsons, with Basil McDonald on duty next week.

Some of our ladies singles were also played on Wednesday, with Robyn Jolley winning against Kathy Clifford after a close game, and Shirley Swan defeating Jeannie Leach, after being tied 24-all on the last end, Shirley eventually winning the measure by a couple of millimetres.

Please arrange to play your singles games as soon as possible so that we can get them finished.

Also please note that the 100-up draw is now on the board.

Members are reminded that social bowls is in the morning now, with names to be in by 9am for a 9.30am start.

Saturday pennant teams in both Division 1 and Division 3 lost last weekend, while our two Division 4 teams were both successful at home.

Both of our midweek teams lost this week, with Racecourse 2 in fine form defeating our Lake Boga 1 side, while the Division 2 team came up against a strong Swan Hill side, with three men playing on each rink, however Shirley Swan, Ron Atkinson, Noel Hender and Jenny Robertson came out with a draw on their rink.

MVPA

ON Sunday, the State Pairs got under way with both the men’s and women’s events.

The women had only four pairs entered, so their games were all played on the one day.

After playing a round robin, where each pair played all the others, Jessica Dehne and Kerryn Evans (Moulamein) finished as the winners with a perfect 3-0 record.

In the men’s event, Buck Lehmann and Matt O’Bree (Murray Downs) won their section, winning all three games.

Norm Smith and Glenn McKissack (Racecourse) won their group with two wins and a draw.

In the third section, Peter Brook and Chris Power (Murray Downs) were successful. Brook and Power won one and lost one match in a section of three, and went through on a countback ahead of the other two pairs.

The men’s State Pairs semi-final will start at 9.30am at Murray Downs on Sunday, with Buck Lehmann and Matt O’Bree to play Norm Smith and Glenn McKissack, and Peter Brook and Chris Power awaiting the winners in the final.
