Swan Hill

Swan Hill Bowls Club started the New Year with a bang. Seventy-eight bowlers enjoyed a sausage sizzle, prior to playing in our annual New Year’s Evening Tournament on January 1.

President Mick Balchin welcomed players from Ballarat, Glenroy, Gunbower, Lake Boga, Murray Downs, Nyah, Racecourse, Tooleybuc, Tamworth and our own Swan Hill bowlers.

After three competitive games of Any Combination Triples, the winners were G. McCaig, M. O’Bree & C. McCaig from Murray Downs.

Second place went to P. Loughran, E. and I. Lawrey, Racecourse. A Racecourse team skipped by S. Domaille, also claimed third prize money.

Lucky cards went to skipper Danny Kelly, Lucky second, A. Lennicke, Ballarat and Alan Treble was the lucky lead.

A most enjoyable evening finished with a delicious supper prepared by the ladies.

Results of Presidents Evening held on December 18 were: Winners – G. McIntosh, S. Meehan and J. Ford, a combination team from Racecourse and Lake Boga.

Another combination team consisting of G. Robertson, D. Timmins, Murray Downs and N. Graham, Moulamein came in second and Racecourses, N. & M. Smith and R. Wolfe took home the third prize money.

Sponsor for the night was Graeme Hayes Real Estate, Graeme entered a team and presented the prizes during supper.

Sincere thanks to all who came to the two evenings and to our members who assisted in making both events most successful.

Friday Frolic was washed out last week, however the weather is looking fine for today, so come along and enjoy one hour of bowls starting at 3pm. A good chance to keep up your practice for when pennant resumes.

Visitors and new bowlers will be made most welcome. Be sure and enter by 2.30pm to be sure of being in the draw. Happy hour cool drinks in the clubhouse after the game, a light snack and the chance to try your luck in Mick’s raffles.

The jackpot is rising and every bowler has a chance of cracking it open.

The Murray Valley Playing area, Champion of Champions event is on this Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7, starting at 9.30am at the Swan Hill Bowls Club.

Swan Hill’s champions are Judy Husson and Glen Evans and we wish them all the best in this prestigious event.

Happy New Year to all bowlers.

Tooleybuc

Congratulations to our Club Champions for this season and also to the runners-up.

In the men’s, Aaron Adams defeated Alex Smith and in the Ladies, Edna Borchard defeated Kessada Smith in what were two very good games in very tough conditions.

Both Aaron and Edna will represent themselves and the club at the Champion of Champions at Swan Hill on January 6 and 7. Please go along and show your support.

Aaron has a bye in the first round and then will play Mat Coates from Balranald and Edna will play Kerryn Evans from Moulamein in her first round.

Good luck to them both, from all at Tooleybuc.
