RACECOURSE

OUR Wednesday jackpot bowls was played in ideal conditions.

The winners, with two wins and +17 shots, were Bryan Bice, Max Renney and Peter Holland.

Runners–up with one win and +6 shots, were Graeme Bennett and Gerard Maher.

The jackpot didn’t go off.

Players are reminded that we are now in summer mode, with play starting at 9.30am. Names need to be in by 8.45am.

There are lots of club events which must be played ASAP.

Australia Day’s Peter and Mary Hooper Any Combination Triples took place on January 26.

Winners, with three wins apiece, were DJ Weaver, Jade Morvell and Kevin Vivian.

Runners–up – Kylie Gardner, Greg Schack and Hank Van Der Veen – lost on a countback in a great contest.

In third place, Trevor Wiseman, Lyndal Taylor and Peter Scott finished just behind with two wins and a draw.

The Smiles Triples, due to be played on Sunday, has been postponed due to the forecasted very hot weather. It will be rescheduled later in the year.

On the last night of Saturday pennant – February 10 – there will be a pizza tea for all players following the matches.

SWAN HILL

FRIDAY Frolic will be on at 3pm on Friday, names need to be entered by 2.30pm to be in the draw.

Playing bowls ensures you have a chance to take out the jackpot, which is almost up to $200. Social activities follow in the clubhouse.

There will also be an evening of barefoot bowling, banter and refreshing drinks this Friday evening, open to anyone interested in playing a short, casual, social game of bowls.

We encourage those interested in trying out bowls and seasoned bowlers to attend.

Come as a group or a single, all welcome. A good way to meet new friends.

Entry is $5 per player for a night of fun. Enter by 6pm to start at 6.15pm.

On Saturday, Division 1 come up against top of the ladder leaders Murray Downs 1 at Murray Downs.

Swan Hill will put their best foot forward against tough opposition.

Last Saturday at Moulamein was another close encounter for the ones, going down by eight shots.

G. Scandalora, V. Plumridge, D. Millsteed and R. Dorigo won their rink by seven shots.

Balranald were far too good for Swan Hill’s Division 2 side that travelled to Balranald.

Swan Hill 2 will be trying hard at Manangatang on Saturday to make amends. These two teams are playing it out for the wooden spoon and are one game apiece.

Unfortunately, due to players being unavailable, Team 4 forfeited to Manangatang.

Tuesday Pennant was very competitive. Division 1 played at home to visiting side Murray Downs 2. Both rinks were very close all day but Murray Downs gained the upper hand, winning by eight shots overall.

Next Tuesday the ones go to Lake Boga, for the best of three, having won one game each this season.

Division 2 were away playing Racecourse 3 and to Swan Hill’s excitement, they won both rinks. E. Grey, F. Burge, G. Coulter and R. Dorigo defeated E. Lawry’s rink by 10 shots and new skip L. Tompsett, R. Poole, J. Sibley and D. McBeath finished 25–24 up on L. Loat’s team.

The twos will be at home Tuesday and play visiting side Murray Downs 4.

LAKE BOGA

AUSTRALIA Day weekend had 60 players competing for prizemoney of $450 in our annual Australia Day weekend tournament.

Teams consisted of any–combination two–bowl triples, and evening play started after a barbecue tea at 5.30pm.

The winning team was John and Damien Caldwell and Mick Hollingsworth (Murray Downs) with three wins and 80 points.

In second place was Doug Fisher, Noel Delminico and Daryl Barry (Murray Downs), three wins and 78 points.

In third place was Robyn Jolley (Lake Boga), Lyndal Taylor and David Jonkers (Racecourse), three wins and 76 points.

The team with the highest winning margin, all from Lake Boga, were Danny Kelly, Basil McDonald and John Pye with a one–game margin of 15.

Thanks to the district clubs that supported Lake Boga.

Social bowls this week was won by Peter Snell, Noel Hender and Barbara Davies with plus–13.

In second place Max Parsons, Billy King (Quambatook), Ray Leach with plus–9.

Lake Boga were confident that they could win against Murray Downs in Division 1 pennant, but went down in all three rinks with a total 40 points.

The standout rink for Lake Boga was the team skippered by Danny Kelly, being 15 shots down after 12 ends, finishing the day only two shots down, while the last–end result could have gone either way.

Division 1 team is fourth on the ladder with 62 points ahead of Swan Hill with 54 points.

Against Moulamein, the Division 3 rink skippered by David Condy had a draw, and the Leigh Kingsbury rink won by seven shots. Peter Snell’s rink down by nine shots.

Overall, Lake Boga went down by just two shots and are sitting in third place on the ladder with 82 points ahead of Racecourse 3 with 77 points.

In Division 4, Lake Boga went down by five shots, Alex Jobling’s rink had a draw, Ray Leaches’ rink lost by five.

Lake Boga 3 are fourth on the ladder with 82 points.

Midweek Pennant Division 1 against Racecourse was a very close game, the rink skippered by Janet Hamill only lost by three shots, while the second rink skippered by Robyn Jolley had a draw.

In Division 2, Lake Boga won against Manangatang, the rink skippered by Shirley Swan won by four shots, Jeanie Leaches’ rink winning by five shots.

TOOLEYBUC

THE Tooleybuc players had a successful day of pennant at home last Saturday, recording a win across all three rinks against Racecourse 3, winning 64-52.

T. Armstrong’s rink had the biggest margin on the day winning by seven shots, followed by R. Holland’s rink by three shots and P. Gardner’s rink came back from being down to win closely by two shots.

Well done to all players.

On Saturday, Tooleybuc will play at home again, against Lake Boga 2. Let’s continue this winning form.

Midweek pennant players also had a win on Tuesday against Nyah District 1 at home, winning 62-38.

P. Gardner’s rink had a comfortable win against their opponents winning by 25 shots, while T. Armstrong’s rink struggled being behind until a strong comeback in the last three ends to go down only by one shot overall.

Next Tuesday Tooleybuc will play Balranald 1 at Balranald.
