SWAN HILL

TODAY is a good day to rock along to Swan Hill Bowls Club for a short game of bowls.

We encourage and welcome anyone wishing to give bowls a try to take either of the following options. Bowls are available for newcomers to use.

Option one: At 3pm Friday Frolic is on the agenda, please enter your names by 2.30 to be in the draw.

The jackpot is being very elusive, sitting at $175, waiting to be cracked by a lucky team.

Everyone that plays in the 3pm game has a chance of winning.

Mick’s raffles, happy-hour drinks and a light snack in the clubhouse follow.

Option two: At 6pm, a casual evening of barefoot bowling banter and refreshing drinks is open to anyone interested in giving bowls a go.

Groups and singles as well as regular bowlers all welcome.

Contact S. Tompsett on 0429 008 386 or Swan Hill Bowls Club, 5032 1772.

Tomorrow is the last round of Saturday Pennant prior to the finals with all Swan Hill teams playing at home.

There will be a barbecue after the game for all our bowlers that have played during the season and their partners and family.

As was predicted, Murray Downs 1 proved to be too tough for our Division 1 last Saturday.

The ones were unable to take out a rink with G. Evans’ rink doing the best against J. Thornton.

Tomorrow Division 1 hosts an improved Nyah team. Swan Hill will have all stops out, aiming to creep into the final four.

Division 2 made the trip to Manangatang, falling short by 16 shots.

J. Thompson, G. Coulter, L. Tompsett and A. Treble played out a draw with M. O’Bree’s rink.

G. Clark’s crew just missed out by four shots against J. Arentz.

This week the twos will battle it out on their home greens with Racecourse 2.

Unfortunately, Swan Hill’s Team 4 were unable to field a team to play Lake Boga 4. This may be the same scenario tomorrow.

Midweek Tuesday pennant Division 1 came home from Lake Boga on a high after winning both rinks.

J. Husson, W. King, G. Clark and H. Smith defeated R. Jolley’s team by 18 shots, while L. King, V. Plumridge, E. Gey and B. Husson scraped home by two shots against J. Hamill’s rink.

The win put Swan Hill into the four. The ones have a challenging game on Tuesday against ladder leader Murray Downs 1. One game to go and anything can happen regarding fourth position.

Division 2 hosted Murray Downs 4, with the visitors having a win.

J. Sibley took the skipper reins, in place of E. Grey, only going down by two shots to P. Martin.

The twos will finish the season by playing Racecourse 4.

Both teams are home on Tuesday and there will be afternoon tea after the game to celebrate the end of the season. All players and supporters welcome.

Time is running out to enter the Swan Hill Bowls Classic on The Murray two-bowl triples being held Wednesday and Thursday, February 21 and 22.

Cost is $180 per team, all inclusive. Excellent prizemoney. Entries close Monday, February 19, at 10am.

Entries to M. Balchin, 0428 553 913, or Bill King, 0428 324 083.

TOOLEYBUC

IT was the week for close matches in both the Saturday and Midweek pennant matches this week.

Last Saturday’s pennant was played at Tooleybuc against a very strong Lake Boga combination.

With only one home-and-away match left before the finals, Tooleybuc players tried their very best to score a win in the hope of possibly making it into the final four.

However, Lake Boga managed to get over the line by winning by one shot, 63 to 64.

All rinks were extremely close at the end of the day with each of the matches coming down to the final bowls played.

Tooleybuc won one rink with R. Holland’s team winning by two shots. T. Armstrong’s rink lost by one shot and P. Gardner’s team lost by two shots.

Tomorrow Tooleybuc will play at Racecourse against Racecourse 4.

This is the last of the home-and-away games so let’s hope for a win to finish off the season.

In the Midweek Pennant, Tooleybuc players travelled to NSW neighbours Balranald and played in cooler and windy conditions.

Once again, the scores were very close between the two rinks with the lead changing often during the game.

The match resulted in a draw, with Tooleybuc and Balranald winning one rink each by five shots.

In the last of the home-and-away matches next Tuesday, Tooleybuc will play at Murray Downs against Murray Downs 4.

Weekend Pennant – Saturday teams

Division 3: Tooleybuc 1 v Racecourse 4 away – E.Borchard, R.Holland, B.Nield, Z.Oliver; A.Adams, A.Smith, B.Smith, K.Smith; P.Gardner, T.Armstrong, M.Grace, J Armstrong.

Midweek Pennant – Tuesday teams

Division 2: Tooleybuc 1 vs Murray Downs 4 away – T.Armstrong, D.Adams, K.Smith, A.Smith; P.Gardner, R.Holland, E.Borchard, M.Grace.

MVPA

THE last round of Saturday pennant takes place tomorrow, with teams jostling for positions in the four.

Swan Hill 1 is still a mathematical chance to creep into the finals at the expense of Lake Boga 1.

Lake Boga must take one rink off Racecourse in their match to hold onto fourth spot.

Murray Downs 1, Racecourse 1 and Moulamein 1 are all safely in the four of Division 1.

In Division 2, the ladder won’t change. Murray Downs 2 and Racecourse 2 will have the double chance, with Murray Downs 3 and Balranald Ex Services 1 third and fourth.

Division 3 has the most interesting possibilities. Racecourse 3 and Lake Boga 2 do battle for second place, and the coveted double chance.

Top team Racecourse 4 awaits the winner, with Murray Downs 4 making up the numbers.

In Division 4, Manangatang 2 and Racecourse 5 hold the two top spots, followed by Nyah District 2 and Lake Boga 3 sitting in third and fourth.
