Lake Boga

LAST Sunday saw the inaugural novice bowls tournament with 18 players competing for the prizemoney thanks to sponsors Alex and Helen Jobling and Swan Hill Windscreens.

To be eligible, the players had to have taken up bowls as a sport in the past two and a half years.

They played nine games of four ends.

Players came from Manangatang, Racecourse, Murray Downs, Swan Hill, Bendigo and host club Lake Boga.

Jenny Robertson won the ladies’ section, with Laurel Dewhurst from Lake Boga second.

In the men’s section Ian McIndoe from Bendigo won, followed by Peter Oliver from Manangatang.

Lake Boga hopes to make the tournament an annual event.

Last week saw 80 players at the annual fire brigade charity fundraiser barefoot bowls night.

The night raised more than $1300 for the local brigade, which plans to use the money for a vital piece of equipment on the fire truck.

Thanks to everyone who donated for the raffle, supplied supper or helped out on the night.

Social bowls this week saw Barbara Davies, Bones Smith and Terry Haw win with two wins and a score of +13.

In second place were Mary Lynas, Keith Anderson, Ron Atkinson and Ken Hamill with two wins also but with a score of +10.

There will be Pelican Jackpot bowls again this Saturday.

Names need to be in by noon for a 12.30pm start — you can leave your name at the club by phoning 5037 2301.

There will be no Pelican Jackpot bowls on Easter Saturday.
