RACECOURSE

JACKPOT bowls played on Wednesday was won by Tony Evans, Graeme Clarke (Swan Hill) and Peter Hooper with two wins and +9 shots.

Runners-up with one win and +14 shots were Norm Smith, Kaye Roberts and Allan Lindsay, while the jackpot once again did not go off.

Next Friday at 5pm the club will hold its annual general meeting of the bowls division, where our selectors and match committees for the coming season will be selected.

All are welcome to attend and then stay for our members’ draw and raffles.

On Sunday, May 26, we will hold our first Tasco Triples event, with a starting time of 12.30pm and casual dress.

The success of the Racecourse bowlers at the Swan Hill Bowls Club May/Autumn Carnival continued right up to the last day, with Glenn McIntosh and Robyn Jolley (Lake Boga) winning the mixed pairs event last Friday.

The Sunday was a mixed fours event and the Racecourse bowlers had a clean sweep of the placegetters, with Norm Smith, Graeme Bennett, Ron Wolfe and Marg Smith claiming victory with 82 points, while Glenn McIntosh, Kylie Gardner, Shane Domaille and Kerry Jenkins were runners-up with 80 points, while finishing third with 77 points was Alannah and Lyndal Taylor, playing with Isaiah and Corey Bettess of Mildura.

The final day saw Glenn McIntosh and Graeme Bennett in the winners’ circle, again playing with Dawne Holland (Murray Downs).

Next week the state 60 and Over Carnival starts, to be played all over the Northern District bowling greens and Murray Downs.

Racecourse has Ron Wolfe playing in the singles event at Murray Downs on Wednesday, starting at 9am, and Norm Smith playing at Cohuna, also at 9am.

On Friday, Norm Smith and Graeme Bennett will play in the pairs event at Kerang Golf, while Ron Wolfe and Ken Hamill (Lake Boga) will play at Barham at 9am.

SWAN HILL

THE Swan Hill Bowls Club’s 58th annual May/Autumn Carnival came to an end on Monday after 10 days of a variety of events.

Unfortunately, last Saturday was washed out due to the rain that fell in the early hours of the morning.

Some bowlers from outside our district had already headed home after playing the first week, while others were happy for a rest day, as were the working members.

Sunday was good to go again, with the greens in perfect condition thanks to the ground staff.

The prize winners were many and varied, with a good mix of visitors and locals (results can be found with the story above).

Life is back to normal at the Swan Hill Bowls Club, which means Friday Frolic is back on the agenda this Friday. We look forward to seeing everyone there, with bowls to begin at 3pm and names to be in by 2.30pm, with all welcome.

Join Mick and Vic in the clubhouse to socialise for happy hour drinks, a light snack or to try your luck in the raffles, with the jackpot also on the rise.

Members are reminded of the club’s annual meeting, which will be held on Thursday, June 6 at 2pm.

LAKE BOGA

GOOD weather conditions greeted bowlers on Wednesday for social bowls, with Lyn Maher, “Bones” Smith, Leigh Kingsbury and Peter Snell finishing as the winners with two wins and an overall score of plus 19.

Richard Bruton, Janet Hamill and Barry Free finished second with two wins also and a score of plus 18.

The club’s AGM was held on Wednesday night, with Grant Davies elected president, Nola Bruton re-elected secretary and Glenda Booth appointed treasurer.

Thanks to all those who put their hand up to fill the other very important roles around the club.

There are still a couple of vacancies, with either single or team entries available for our annual president’s day this Saturday, with a reminder that our pelican jackpot will resume on Saturday, May 25.
