RACECOURSE

THE Racecourse Bowls Club held its open day last Sunday with the Taverna Funerals Triples event, which was played in great conditions by 24 teams, many coming from out of town.

Two of the elder statesmen of bowls – Max Parsons and Roy Jones – put down the first kitty and the first bowl for the new season.

Winners of the day were Les McPhee and ‘Shorty’ and Cecilia McCaig of Murray Downs, while finishing in second place was Racecourses Richie Doran, Arthur Threadgold and Helen Frame, with third claimed by Donald Golf’s David Peake, Tony Dionisopoulos and Robert Reseigh.

Wednesday’s social bowls event was won by Brian Quaife (Swan Hill), Mary Hooper and Peter Scott (Racecourse), with two wins and +10 shots, while runners-up, with one win and +9 shots, were Murray Downs Doug Fisher and David Timmins and Racecourses Bob McIntosh.

Kylie Gardner ran a school holiday community fun day on Wednesday which featured face painting, chalk drawing, music, playdough stations, biscuit decorating and fun games on the green.

Lots of fun was had by all participants, with many thanks to everyone who helped run the day.
