Bowls Notes

RACECOURSE

ON Sunday, the Renney family sponsored a triples tournament, with 22 teams with players from Kerang, Cohuna, Lake Boga, Murray Downs, Moulamein, Nyah, Swan Hill, Tooleybuc and our own locals all participating.

The winners, with three wins and victory on a countback were Peter Loughran, Arthur Threadgold and Clark Jenkins, while the runners-up, also on three wins but with less points, were Trevor Wiseman, Lyndal Taylor and Kieran Foott.

In third place, with two wins and a draw, were Bryan Bice, Roy Jones and Laurel Dewhurst (Lake Boga).

Wednesday’s jackpot bowls was won by Glenn McIntosh and Clark Jenkins with two wins and +16 shots, while the runners-up, with one win and +7 shots, were Tony Evans, Arthur Threadgold and Max Renney.

The jackpot was No.3 and it was shared by two teams – Fred Burge (Swan Hill), Lindsay Toomer (Murray Downs) and Robert Rust, Graeme Bennett and Rod Wardle.

Next Friday, July 26 we have Sharon’s tea, members’ draw and raffles.

It is also our big draw for a free membership for next season, so if you want to be in it to win it, make sure you have paid your current membership for the upcoming season.

Social bowls will be front and centre on Sunday, with all names to be in by 11.30am, for a 12.30pm start.

SWAN HILL

THE any-combination triples held last Friday was highly successful, with 14 teams participating in a most enjoyable afternoon.

There needed to be a countback to determine the winners from the two top teams, David Daly, Daryl Barry and Noel Hender were declared the winners with 57 points, with the team comprising of Doug Fisher, John Alderuccio and David Timmins declared runners-up, and Kane Kendall, Robin Poole and Fred Burge finishing third.

The $170 jackpot was cracked by Anthony Shields, Barry Dickenson and Nevan Green.

It seems Barry Dickenson has a secret key to the jackpot, having won it the previous week also, with the jackpot now starting from scratch.

This Friday we are back to our normal Friday Frolic game, with all names to be in by 2.30pm for a 3pm start.

Single entries this Friday, please be early as everyone will be there and keen to start so they can get inside and out of the cold.

All the usual activities and frivolities will take place in the clubhouse after the game, with everyone welcome to come along and enjoy, the cost only $5 to play.

The next Friday, any-combination triples event, will be held on Friday, August 2, being the first Friday of the month, and will following the same format as last week.

The Swan Hill Bowls Club members would like to express their sympathy to Audrey Shawyer’s family on her passing.

Audrey was a respected member of the Swan Hill Bowls Club for many years and was a very competitive bowler and a hard-working member of the club.

LAKE BOGA

THIRTY-six players enjoyed pelican jackpot bowls last Saturday afternoon, with the winners being John McCormack, Bob McIntosh and Rod Dewhurst on two wins and the highest winning margin.

Finishing second was the team of Danny Kelly, Les Grey and Keith Anderson, who lost their first game and won their second with the highest margin, while resting touchers were Jean Leach, Terry Haw, Peter Phelps and Nickie Davis.

As the jackpot wasn’t claimed, it will this week rise to $144.

Social bowls saw a small field of players who played in a pairs format this week, with ‘Bones’ Smith and Ray Halligan having two wins and a score of +17 to win the day.

Names need to be in by noon for a 12.30pm start for jackpot bowls this Saturday, all players are welcome. Entries to be phoned through to the club and a message left on 5037 2301.
