RACECOURSE

THE Racecourse Bowls Club held its Graeme Hayes Real Estate Triples on Sunday with 20 teams playing.

The best of the three-game winners were Bill L’Huillier, P. Coates and P. Davis from Gunbower with 81 points, while the runners-up, with 78 points, were Jade Morvell, Diane Millsteed and Bob McIntosh, and in third place with 76 points were Ken O’Bree (Murray Downs), Brian Quaife (Swan Hill) and Helen Frame.

Wednesday’s jackpot bowls was won by David Jonkers, Norm Smith and Kevin Saville with two wins and +11 shots, while the runners-up, with one win and +12 shots, were Darryl Barry (Murray Downs), Arthur Threadgold and Ernie Russell. The jackpot didn’t go off.

On Sunday we have our Robert Muston Memorial Triples.

It is a casual-dress day with all proceeds going to the cancer foundation, with the day starting at 11.30am with a barbecue lunch, and then bowls starting at 12.30pm. As soon as the bowls is finished the raffles will start, and there’s a lot of them.

Our Ash Roberts Homes Any Combination Triples will be held on Sunday, August 18.

The club has its skins triples tournament coming up on Sunday, September 8, starting at 12.30pm.


SWAN HILL

THIS Friday we are back to our normal Friday Frolic at Swan Hill Bowls Club.

Make sure you enter your name by 2.30pm, ready for a 3pm start, with all welcome to take part.

The club expects to be busy, with players from many parts of Victoria arriving for Swan Hill Bowls’ two-day Classic on The Murray.

Some may choose to join in with the Friday Frolic bowlers, while others may prefer to just practice, to get the feel of our magnificent greens.

The jackpot did not go off last week, so is steadily rising.

After the bowls, there will be Happy Hour drinks, hot snacks and Mick’s raffles, with something for everyone whether you play bowls or just come for a social chat.

This weekend 34 teams from far and wide will contest the Classic on The Murray, with play to begin at 9.30am both Saturday and Sunday.

The weather is looking great, ensuring bowlers of a pleasant two days’ bowling.

The results of Swan Hill Bowls mini tournament last Friday are as follows.

Winners from the 14 teams that entered, were the Racecourse team, comprising, G. McIntosh, G. Bennett and A. Threadgold.

Second prize went to P. Furnell, H. Whitford and D. Barry from Murray Downs.

The Racecourse-Swan Hill combination of DJ. Weaver, G. McGrath and R. Fields took home third prize.

Swan Hill Bowls Opening Day combined with RSL Diggers Day is on Sunday, August 25, with details next week or you can check the entry sheet in the clubhouse.


LAKE BOGA

PLEASANT winter conditions greeted bowlers last Saturday for pelican jackpot bowls.

While the jackpot failed to be claimed and will be $252 this week, the winners with two wins and the highest score were Phil Pary, John Ford and Rod Dewhurst.

In second place, after losing their first game and winning their second, also with the highest margin, were John McCormack, Leigh Kingsbury and Max Parsons.

Resting touchers were awarded to Kess and Alex Smith and Max Parsons.

Winners of social bowls this week with two wins and a score of plus 13 were Max Parsons, John Walker, Sally Meehan and David Condy.

The runners-up were Brian Fowles, ‘Bones’ Smith and Kane Kendall with two wins and plus 9.

Entries are being accepted for our opening day, the Parsons Bulk Haulage sponsored tournament on Saturday, September 7, starting at 12.30pm.

Prize money of $600 is up for grabs, with entries to either Danny on 0447 845 975, Ken on 0408 591 256 or Rod on 0447 382 007.

Thursday, August 22 is the next club meeting at 7.30pm (note change of date), please come along and support your club as there are a few agenda items to discuss.


NYAH WEST

WHAT a great day we had for social bowls and Christmas in July, with 30 players. The men finished up beating the ladies; the ladies did give the men a good game.

The resting touchers were Daniel Wynne, Alex Smith, Max Parson, and Noel Hender.
