Bowls Notes

SWAN HILL

FRIDAY the 13th is today, but don’t let that deter you.

You can still get lucky at the Swan Hill Bowls Club, by entering your name into the Friday Frolic social game which commences at 3pm.

All bowlers are in with a chance of winning the jackpot which will be above $100, entries must be in by 2.30pm.

Everyone that is in a winning bowls team receives a prize.

All will be made most welcome for bowls and the social activities that follow.

Numbers were down slightly at our mini tournament last Friday due to a number of other things being on.

The winners of the day were:

1st – Vic Plumridge, Zac Oliver and Ralph Dorigo.

2nd – Alan Marshman, G. Clark and Betty Hill.

3rd – Glen MacIntosh, Mick Balchin and Graeme Bennett.

The jackpot wasn’t cracked on the first draw, which meant that there was a rolling draw for $100 until the correct number was drawn out.

The lucky team was D.J. Weaver, G. McGrath and Russell Fields.

This Sunday Swan Hill bowlers will enjoy a return visit from the Quambatook club for a pennant practice match.

Bowling arm bowlers need to put their entries in for the Swan Hill Bowls Club honour board event, the Bowling Arm Classic to be held on Sunday, September 29.

The day commences at noon, with afternoon tea after the second game.

Prizemoney of $900 is up for grabs, spread across first, second and third and the three best game winners.

The format is any combination triples, teams and single entries accepted, $15 per player.

Contact Bill King on 0428 324 083 or Swan Hill Bowls Club 5032 1772. There is a sheet on the noticeboard for entries also.

Congratulations to Florence Plant on her recent 104th Birthday.

Florence was a former member of the Swan Hill Bowls Club. She was a dedicated, competitive bowler and worker at the club for many years.

RACECOURSE

AN update to the Daffodil Day fundraiser total, we raised a terrific total of $3626.

The initial count was done early in the day, without donations, sale of food, and other bits and pieces included.

The Racecourse Bowls Club has started digging up its B Green to put our new TigerTurf synthetic green down.

If all goes well, we will be playing on it in two months.

Our skins’ triples tournament, sponsored by Beck Legal and Autobarn, was played on Sunday.

It was a great day with visitors from Cohuna, Cohuna Golf and Bowls, Lake Boga, Swan Hill and Murray Downs.

The winners, with eight wins out of 12 games, were Trevor Wiseman, Diane Millsteed and Arthur Threadgold.

Norm Smith, Ernie Russell and Clark Jenkins were runners-up, also with eight wins but less shots.

Jackpot bowls was well attended with 36 bowlers playing.

The winners, with an excellent score of + 33 shots, were Peter Loughran, Arthur Threadgold and Noel Delmenico (Murray Downs).

The runners-up, with one win and + 9 shots, were Graeme Bennett, Kaye Roberts and Peter Holland.

On Wednesday next week we have our Marraboor Pharmacy ladies’ mixed fours (ladies to skip), with a 12.30 pm start.

Entries to Faye Devereux 0429 302 442 or Carol Smith 0427 376 345.

We have Rodney Vincent coming to the Hub at Racecourse Bowls Club on Friday, October 4.

It’s sure to be an entertaining night.

LAKE BOGA

OUR Parsons Bulk Haulage-sponsored opening day tournament last Saturday had 88 bowlers enjoying pleasant bowling conditions.

Playing with two bowls, four to a team, and three games of eight ends.

The winners, winning all three games and the only team to do so, were Noel Hender, David Jonkers, Graham Clark and Jim Thompson.

Runners-up were the team consisting of David Condy, Diane Millstead, Kane Kendall and Max Parsons who sponsored the day.

Third place went to Mick Carmody, Ian Coates, Craig Whittaker and Rick Parr from Cohuna.

Resting touchers for the day went to Wayne Murray, Bob McIntosh and Authur Threadgold.

Thank you to everyone that made the day so enjoyable.

A reminder to club members that we have two practice matches coming up before pennant starts.

The first at home against Kerang on the grand final holiday on Friday, September 27, the second on Sunday, October 6, at Cohuna against Cohuna.

Pelican jackpot returns this week, and the jackpot is $480. Names in by noon for a 12.30pm start, single entries only.

Social bowls this week had 29 bowlers.

The winners were Lyn Maher, Kane Kendall and Danny Kelly with two wins and a score of plus 22.

In second place the team consisted of Ken Hamill, Peter Snell and Brian Fowls with two wins also and a score of plus 3.

NYAH DISTRICT

THE weather was great on Tuesday for social bowls, with Kent Coburn and Kess Smith resting touchers.

We are having barbecue lunch, and this will be the last game of social bowls before pennant season starts.
