SWAN HILL

TODAY, being the first Friday of the month, gives bowlers the opportunity to play in the Swan Hill Bowls Club any combination triples mini tournament.

This will be our last mini tournament until after the pennant season is completed.

Teams and single entries will be accepted up until 1pm, with play to commence from 2pm.

Entry is $10 per player, with $230 prizemoney to be distributed between the first three winning teams.

The jackpot sits at $190 and will rise to over $200 on Friday, so it’s a good one to have a crack at.

Entries can be made by ringing Bill King on 0428 324 083, Graeme Clark on 0417 409 703 or the Swan Hill Bowls Club on 5032 1772, or alternatively you can enter on the sheet on the notice board.

All bowlers and visitors are welcome, and it’s an ideal chance to have some competitive practice prior to midweek pennant commencing next Tuesday (October 8) and Saturday pennant on October 12.

Unfortunately, our Bowling Arm Classic last Sunday had to be cancelled due to the wet conditions. We trust the rain was of some benefit to the farmers.

We will be endeavouring to find a date to reschedule the Bowling Arm Classic.

Pennant teams will be displayed on the appropriate notice boards during the week leading up to play.

Club games sheets are on the notice boards, please check the boards and indicate if you wish to play as the draws will be done soon.

President Mick and club members were saddened to learn of long standing member John Dillon’s passing and extend our sincere sympathy to John’s family.

It is not that long since John put down his last bowl at Friday Frolic bowls and then continued to come along and enjoy the club social activities until quite recently.

On Tuesday, October 8, our Swan Hill Division 1 midweek pennant team will travel to Lake Boga, while our Division 2 team will head out to Nyah for their first game.

We wish all our bowlers a happy and enjoyable 2024-25 bowling season.

LAKE BOGA

LAST Friday saw our bowls club host Kerang Golf Bowls Club at our annual pre-season practice pennant competition.

We have been competing for many years for the trophy, with Lake Boga keen to win back the trophy which we lost to Kerang Golf last year.

While both teams had five-rink wins for the day, Kerang came out the winners on overall points.

This Sunday we are off to Cohuna to have another practice match, with members needing to be at the club house by 12pm to car pool.

The teams are posted on our Facebook page and at the clubhouse, please note all substitutes will be getting a game on the day.

At pelican jackpot last week we had 34 bowlers competing for the money, a good crowd considering the AFL grand final was on.

Glenn McIntosh, Graham Borchard and Brian Fowles all went home with $162 in their pocket as they claimed the jackpot.

The winners for the days competition were Mick Tempini, Edna Borchard and Janet Hamill, while the runner’s up were Ray Leach, Dianne Millstead and Barbara Davies, with the resting toucher going to John Walker and Ray Leach.

This Saturday will be our last jackpot for the season, but it will be starting with a barbecue at 11.30am, with play to begin at 12.30pm.

Good luck to our midweek pennant teams, we hope you have a great season under the new rules.
