MURRAY DOWNS

SOCIAL bowls last week was attended by 16 players.

There was only one team who won both of their games, well done to Doug Fisher, Bob Deighton and Graham Borchard.

The jackpot did not go off, so it would be a nice little Christmas bonus to win.

Members rostered next week are Mac and Di Angus.

The time was changed to the earlier start of 9am this week so keep an eye on your emails to check the times for the next few weeks as the weather hots up.

A reminder of our Turkey Day Tournament being held on Wednesday, December 11, for a 10am start, three games of 10 ends.

Teams and single entries to Dawne on 0402 020996 or Carl on 0429 855260 by Tuesday, December 10, at 5pm.

The Christmas party will be held at the John Mayers Pavilion on Saturday evening, December 14, after bowls.

This will consist of a two-course meal at $25 per person.

There will be some great Christmas hampers to be won on the night.

There is a list on the noticeboard to put your name on for catering purposes.

Club Championship matches have begun so if you are participating in these, please organise to play as soon as possible.

SWAN HILL

FRIDAY Frolic numbers have been down, due to the high temperatures.

This Friday will not be very bowls friendly either, with the forecast temperature of 37 degrees.

The committee will be there if any brave contestants turn up for a game.

You are more than welcome to just come on down to the air-conditioned Swan Hill Bowls Club and enjoy a nice cold happy hour drink, a friendly chat and try your luck in Mick’s raffles.

Unbeknown to your correspondent, the jackpot did go off two weeks ago with the mystery winners enjoying a handy bonus.

The final of the Ladies Club Championship was played last Friday in very warm conditions, between Judy Husson and Lee Tompsett.

It was a very tight game to the 13th end, when Lee got the break, going on to win the 2024/25 Club Championship.

Last Saturday, Division One played Lake Boga One, going down by three shots, which was the same result as the first round.

B. Husson’s rink had a great win against D. Kelly, winning by 21 shots, with a score of 8 on the last end.

Unfortunately, it was not quite enough to cover the deficit of 24 sots on the other two rinks.

Another, tough assignment awaits the One’s on Sautrday, when they cross the bridge to play Murray Downs 2.

Division Two had another successful day, defeating Murray Downs 4 on all 3 rinks, to win by 46 shots. A. Marshman, F. Burge, D. Tompsett & W. Meyer built the lead by 39 shots, while Thompson & Hill added another 7 shots.

The Two’s will head north to Manangatang this week, playing them for the first time this season.

Midweek pennant on Tuesday was not a good day for the Division One side.

Swan Hill won the first round, but Murray Downs certainly turned the tables on Swan Hill. Swan Hill was never in the hunt.

Next week the One’s play Racecourse 2 at Racecourse. Division Two had a good day at Lake Boga, winning both rinks for an overall win of 13 shots.

R. Poole’s team up 9 and J. Thompson’s rink up 4. Division Two play at home against ladder leader, Racecourse 4 this Tuesday.

Our other Division 4 team had a close game against Manangatang losing by 3 shots. Thanks must go to Kieth Anderson and Allan Treble who substituted for Manangatang.

Mid-week pennant was not quite as successful on Tuesday, Division 1 losing to Murray Downs 2 by just 1 shot, each team had a winning rink.

Division 2 lost both rinks to Swan Hill with a combined loss of 13 shots.

TOOLEYBUC

PENNANT bowls looked doubtful last Saturday morning when there were some heavy downfalls of rain around the district but then soon the sun came out and greens dried out.

Tooleybuc players travelled to Lake Boga to play against Lake Boga 2.

Tooleybuc players got off to a good start but then Lake Boga had the lead at the lunch break.

At the end of the game Tooleybuc managed to win one rink out of the three with the winning rink being P. Gardner’s team winning by 10 shots.

The final result was Lake Boga defeating Tooleybuc 70 to 58.

Next week Tooleybuc will play at home against Moulamein 2.

This will be the last game of the combined Division 2 and 3 teams before the teams will then divide depending on position on the ladder.

Midweek pennant was played at Tooleybuc on Tuesday against Racecourse 3.

Once again with heavy rainfall the night before, the greens were heavier than they have been.

Racecourse 3 players appeared to handle the conditions better though as they won both rinks on the day.

The final result was Racecourse 3 defeating Tooleybuc 49 to 33.

Next week Tooleybuc will travel away to play Manangatang.

Tooleybuc would like to congratulate Dannielle Adams who has been selected to represent the Murray Mallee Region side against Wimmera to be played at Wycheproof on Sunday 15th December.

We also wish good luck to Kessada Smith, Trish and John Armstrong who will be playing in the State Singles at Murray Downs on Sunday.
