Cohuna Golf win ten straight

MURRAY Downs just fell short in their match-up against first placed side Cohuna Golf in last Saturday’s Northern Valley Premier League game.

It was a fairly even game, Murray Downs winning two of the three rinks available but on one rink, they got smashed 10 points to 36, which gave Cohuna Golf the win.

Cohuna Golf president John Keely was quick to praise Harrison Keely’s rink when they took on Brian Lehmann’s rink, adding it was a team contribution.

“It was a great team contribution,” Keely told The Guardian this week

“Colin Black really set the team up well when he led.

“Colin Burton in third also had his best game of the year so far.”

They now have more than 100 points this season, a remarkable effort for Cohuna Golf which should no doubt guarantee them a spot in the finals.

Keely stated that they go into every game with high expectations and consistently stay sharp week in and week out.

“Putting ourselves up there as the team to beat is the aim for most teams going into a season,” he said.

“We do training sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays to keep sharp for Saturday’s game.

“We always go into every game with high expectations and so if you don’t perform well enough with the first team then expect to be put down to the second team.”

Murray Downs still has a strong hand on a top four spot, but they will have to continue their winning form or at least keep winning on individual rinks to gain a few extra points towards the table.

This week Murray Downs have another home game against Racecourse, while Cohuna Golf will host third placed side Barham.

In the other match-ups of the Northern Valley Premier League, bottom two sides Racecourse and Kerang Golf faced off.

Racecourse won two of the three rinks and also had the most shots all up to win in a rather close match.

Racecourse’s finals hopes aren’t out of the window just yet, they still have a chance to make the top four but it’s a long hill to climb and it definitely won’t be easy.

Kerang Golf’s disappointing season continues as they are still yet to win a game and have only managed 16 points when there has been 120 points up for grabs.

Racecourse will cross the Murray River to face Murray Downs this weekend, while Kerang Golf will be hosting their in-town rivals Kerang.

In the final match-up of the weekend, top four sides Kerang and Barham battled it out in Kerang.

You could barely split the two teams, with Barham winning one rink, the two sides drawing on the second rink and Kerang won on the third rink, Kerang just managed to win as they had 68 shots all up while Barham had 66 shots.

This is exactly what we should be expecting for finals lawn bowls as only six points are separating these two sides. They all played with passion and determination to get the win.
