WELCOME all back to bowls, hopefully everyone had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year and are feeling refreshed and ready to get back into the game. Midweek Pennant resumes on Tuesday and Tooleybuc will play Nyah District at Nyah.

Cohuna Golf

YET another new year is upon us, best wishes for a beauty to all our bowling friends and the wider community. We are ready for a litany of good news stories rather than some of the depressing stuff presented through the media over recent months.

We’re always positive at Cohuna Golf, and now after the break are looking forward to building on the terrific pennant successes achieved up till Christmas.

Both greens have had a makeover and will be ready for competition play when midweek pennant and Wednesday night social bowls commence on January 15.

Over the break our club championships have reached the grand final stage, with Noelene Brown and Yvonne Eckhardt to play-off in the ladies, whilst Bluey Fletcher will tangle with Jarred Hammond for the men’s title.

Dates and times will be publicised as soon as they are finalised.

Jarred, Bluey and Harrison Keely have earned a place in the regional championships at Ballarat this coming weekend, best of luck to you three. And the combined M Lots of club games are miles behind as well, and need attending too promptly as the usual end of season bottlenecks are becoming a reality.

Tournament-wise our regular attendees were left lamenting when excessive heat shut down last weekend’s events. We hope for better luck later this month with events at Cohuna, Kerang Golf and our own Cohuna Car Sales Triples on Monday 27.

Regular house keeping reminders: Keep selectors informed of any looming absences, as teams will be picked this week; enter match results on the board to avoid being scrubbed and finally try to maintain the good numbers at practice with so few games remaining for the season.Nyah District

WE hope everyone had a safe Christmas and New Year.

Our Christmas party was on December 15 at the Grand Hotel for members and family which was a good day for everyone.

The raffle we had was drawn there was five hampers.

First was Alison Craige, second Peter Phelp, third Greg Brown, fourth Betty Bailey and fifth Archie Wickham.

Santa even came for the children.

We would like to congratulate the winners of the club championship, Sheena Coe winner and runner up Betty Baily for ladies singles, Alexender Everitt winner and runner up Perter Philp for men singles.


Kerang Golf

TRUST everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.

At Kerang Golf Bowls, our social games have continued, depending on the weather conditions and other local attractions. Members have also attended tournaments held by neighbouring clubs, with Frank and Lorraine Ritchie just missing the major prize at the Pyramid Hill Pairs Day on January 1. Think there was a raffle prize as well to go with the runners-up podium finish.

Speaking of tournaments, our Australia Day Triples is to be held on Sunday, January 26, with the “famous” lamb burgers again being the drawcard. Get your teams in early as this is a very popular event on our calendar. Get your entries to Aldo (0407 310762) or Frank Ritchie (0409 439029) ASAP.

Last Thursday, Social bowls welcomed 19 players to our regular event. At the conclusion of two games, there was only one two game winner. Well done to Rob Fisher, Noel Robertson and Sid Hutchinson on their win. Runners-up were Frank Ritchie, Marlene Rawson and Dale Spinks. Chocolates to Craig Hicks, Som Pascoe and Carol Pay. Social Bowls continues this Thursday and Saturday, with a 12.45 pm register for a 1pm start.

The newly lasered Alec Mitchell green is coming along well with watering, rolling and mowing being done by our volunteers and the fruits of their labour should be rewarded in the next couple of weeks, when bowling will resume on this green.

Good luck to Frank and Lorraine Ritchie who are representing the Murray Mallee Region in the Teams Championships at Ballarat over the next weekend.

Club matches have stalled a bit over the break, but the quarter finals of the Men’s Championship need to played by this coming Sunday (12/1/25), so if you are involved please get these games played.


Racecourse

CONGRATULATIONS to our five members who will be representing the Murray Mallee in the Bowls Victoria Regional Sides Championships to be played in Ballarat on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Our reps are Kylie Gardner, Lyndal and Alannah Taylor, Mick Holyoak and Norm Smith. Good Luck.

Social bowls started again on Wednesday, and it is now played in the morning starting at 9.30am. The winners were Val Lindsay, Elizabeth Renney and Max Renney with two wins and + 13 shots. The runners up, with one win and + 10 shots, were Rob Rust, Jim Wilcox and Diane Millsteed.

There are plenty of club events still to be played, so if you have a game waiting to be played, please try to get onto it ASAP.
