Bowls Notes

LAKE BOGA

PENNANT bowls last Saturday saw some great results.

Both our Division 4 teams had a win, both up by 14 shots at the end of the day. Our Team 3 in Division 4 won against Nyah at Nyah and Team 4 Division 4 were too strong for Murray Downs at Murray Downs.

Division 3 team had a very close battle all day against Murray Downs. Kane Kendall’s rink won by one shot, Grant Davies rink went down by one shot and Marie O Meara’s team lost by 6.

Unfortunately our Division 1 team lost to Murray Downs, who were to strong for us winning all three rinks.

Midweek pennant was cancelled this week in line with the Bowls Victoria heat policy.

Members were treated to a great game of bowls in a heat of the 100 up between first year rookie bowler John Walker and club Champion Danny Kelly last Friday night.

John pushed Danny all night with John at 96 and Danny at 98, and each having one more bowl for the game. John drew four shots, potentially having the game sown up, but Danny bowled his last bowl down to knock John out and pick up the two shots needed to win.

Great bowling by both players. The result confirms why Danny is club champion but congratulations to John on a great game of bowls.

We have our Australia Day tournament on Monday of this week starting at 5pm with a sausage sizzle, single and team entries are still being taken.

The forecast for Monday is hot (42) the club will make the decision on Saturday if it is to go ahead. Watch our Facebook page for notification if it is cancelled, but we will also notify all entrants.

SWAN HILL

APOLOGIES for wrong photo sent last week. The caption under last Friday’s photo of B. Richardson, V. Plumridge and B. King (Swan Hill) should have been, runners-up for Swan Hill Bowls President’s Evening held Friday, January 10. The winners of President’s Evening were David Daly, Zac Oliver and O. Lewis (Swan Hill), third place went to J. Thompson, G. Clark and E. Russell (Racecourse). Best game winners went to E. Lawry (Murray Downs), G. Hayes team (Kerang) and K. Hamill’s Lake Boga team.

Lucky cards were taken out by skip K. Jenkins, second S. Swan, lead B. McIntosh.

Eighteen teams had a most enjoyable night, which began with a sausage sizzle and finished with a delicious supper provided by the members. Thanks to sponsor, Graeme Hayes Real Estate, and the ladies who prepared the supper.

Swan Hill’s Division 1 and 2 found it tough going for the first game back after the holiday break. Division 1 won one and a half rinks but were unable to cover the loss on the third rink, Racecourse 2 came out on top by 10 shots. This Saturday, Division 1 play second-placed Moulamein at home.

Swan Hill’s Division 2 were unable to hold off ladder leader Balranald last Saturday on their home green. Swan Hill were defeated by 12 shots, winning one rink. They play at home again this Saturday but will be challenged by Racecourse 3.

Midweek Pennant was cancelled on Tuesday due to the heat rule, so ladder positions did not change. Division 1 play Murray Downs 1 at home on Tuesday, while Division 2 will also play at home against Manangatang.

Friday Frolic was well attended last Friday with the weather being more bowler friendly. This Friday will also be a pleasant day for a social game of bowls. Make sure you enter by 2.30pm for a 3pm start.

All are welcome to join in, whether you are a regular bowler or not. Happy Hour drinks, a light snack and Mick’s raffles wind up the afternoon.
