SWAN HILL

WEEKEND pennant last Saturday made an early start to beat the forecast high temperature, with all players pleased to finish before the temperature hit 40 degrees.

Swan Hill Division 1 played Lake Boga at the Lake and only managed to win one rink.

The successful rink was skippered by David Daly, who was supported by W. King, B. Quaife and R. Dorigo and defeated W. Wright’s team by eight shots, with Lake Boga winning by 15 shots overall.

Swan Hill 1 plays ladder leaders Murray Downs 2 this Saturday at home in the last round of the season.

Swan Hill’s Division 2 heads up to Moulamein this week, after coming off the bye last Saturday, with the two’s having secured their place in the four and looking for a win to build their confidence ahead of the finals.

Midweek Pennant was cancelled for the last round on Tuesday due to the heat rule.

Division 2 had a slight chance of making it into the four, if they could have defeated Balranald, but now we will never know, but we all realize that our safety comes first and common sense must prevail.

Our pennant selectors thank all who have played during the season and for supporting their club, with sincere thanks to one player who has acted as a sub when called upon, picking up an eight badge one week.

The first round of midweek pennant finals will be played at the Swan Hill Bowls Club next Tuesday.

We wish all teams competing all the best, with spectators most welcome to come along and enjoy watching some high quality bowls.

This Friday is Friday Frolic, which commences at 3pm, with names to be in by 2.30pm.

The weather is not looking promising heat wise, with a forecast temperature of 37 degrees, which becomes a personal decision.

Social activities will still be on in the cool clubhouse, regardless of the weather.

Momentum is building for the Swan Hill Bowls Club fundraising tournament for an MRI Machine for Swan Hill Health, to be held on Sunday, March 23.

Please enter your team for this any combination triples event, which will start at 1pm on the day.

Phone Bill King on 0428 324 083 or the bowls club on 5032 1772.

There will be novelties and raffles and we encourage non-bowlers to come for afternoon tea and take part in raising funds for this worthwhile cause, with donations of any kind gratefully accepted.

Saturday Pennant Teams – Saturday, February 8 – Round 14

Division 1 – Team 1 v Murray Downs 2 at Swan Hill – B.Husson, J.Husson, O.Lewis, W.King; D.Daly, B.Quaife (Manager), H.Smith, W.Meyer; R.Shields, A.Shields, Z.Oliver, T.McDonald.

Division 2 – Team 2 v Moulamein 2 at Moulamein – J.Thompson (Manager), F.Burge, S.Meehan, S.Tompsett; G.Clark, V.Plumridge, B.Dickenson, R.Field; R.Poole, L.Tompsett, M.Balchin, R.Dorigo.

LAKE BOGA

THIS week is the last round of pennant before the start of finals.

Our midweek pennant teams were not successful in gaining a finals position, but it’s a different case for our weekend pennant teams.

Division 1 snuck into fourth position with 27 shot win against Swan Hill, but the challenge for Division 1 is to win against Moulamein or win at least a couple of rinks to hold onto fourth position, with Moulamein being the team to beat, but also beatable.

Division 3 sit in third place on the ladder and while they did not play last week because they had a bye, all are keen to cement second place on the ladder in the lead up to finals.

It will be an interesting day at Lake Boga this Saturday as both our Division 4 teams play each other, with team 3 sitting on the top of the ladder and team 4 in fourth place and needing to win to hold onto fourth position.

We wish all our teams the best for Saturday.

A reminder to members that our monthly club meeting is on this Wednesday at 7.30pm, all members are encouraged to attend and have an input into the running of the club.

Next Monday at 8am we will hold a working bee to spread the wood chips along the flower gardens, please bring a shovel and a wheelbarrow.

Saturday Pennant Teams – Saturday, February 8 – Round 14

Division 1 – Team 1 v Moulamein at Moulamein – K.Hamill, L.Swan, R.Dewhurst, M.Parsons; D.Kelly, T.Haw, R.Smith, N.Hender; W.Wright, M.Tempini, D.Condy, R.Atkinson.

Division 3 – Team 2 v Manangatang at Manangatang – G.Davies, J.McCormack, J.Hamill, K.Anderson; M.O’Meara, R.Leach, H.Jobling, P.Snell; R.Jolley, M.Lord, K.Kendall, L.Kingsbury.

Division 4 – Team 3 v Lake Boga 4 at Lake Boga – A.Jobling, N.Bruton, R.Bruton, L.Grey; J.Leach, J.Robertson, B.McDonald, B.Fowles.

Division 4 – Team 4 v Lake Boga 3 at Lake Boga – John Pye, N.Davis, B.Lewis, A.Treble; S.Swan, J.Walker, E.Neil, Jill Pye.

TOOLEYBUC

SATURDAY pennant last week was played at Murray Downs against Murray Downs 4 and Tooleybuc had a good win.

Winning two out of the three rinks, A. Smith’s team just went down by two shots, A. Adams team won by three shots and T. Armstrong’s team won by 15 shots.

The overall result saw Tooleybuc defeat Murray Downs 4 – 70 to 54.

With only one round left to be played on Saturday, Tooleybuc will play at home against ladder leaders Murray Downs 3 and we’ll be hoping to finish the season strong and have a win to try and finish in top spot.

Midweek pennant on Tuesday was called off due to the extreme heat rule, which would have been the last game of the season, with finals commencing next week.

Unfortunately, Tooleybuc will not be playing finals, however we do wish those teams who will be all the best.
