SWAN HILL

FRIDAY Frolic bowlers will be able to enjoy a pleasant game this afternoon, with the weather conditions expected to be less than 30 degrees.

The jackpot has risen to $122, giving anyone who plays bowls this afternoon a chance to take home some bonus dollars, although entries need to be in by 2.30pm, ready for a 3.00pm start.

All are welcome to join in, with no experience necessary.

The club expects to be busy, with finals pennant players coming in for practice, with happy hour drinks available in the club house, light snacks following the game and tickets being sold for Mick’s highly sought after raffle prizes.

Last Saturday was the last round of weekend pennant, with Murray Downs 2 proving why they are the ladder leaders by taking out all three rinks.

Scores were even at the break, but Swan Hill 1 couldn’t keep up the pressure and went down overall by 24 shots, with the three rinks following a sequence of seven, eight and nine down.

Division 2 travelled to Moulamein with high hopes, however R. Poole’s rink was the only one successful, finishing three shots ahead.

The other two rinks fell short by a combined 21 shots, making a deficit of 18 shots.

The win did not help Moulamein make it into the four and the good news for Swan Hill 2 is they remained fourth on the ladder and will feature in the finals on Saturday.

Swan Hill Division 2 will play Racecourse 4 in the semi finals at Murray Downs and must win to keep the flag flying for Swan Hill – good bowling to all.

The Swan Hill Bowls Club will host the 1st and 2nd Division 1 finals, between Murray Downs 2 and Moulamein 1 and Racecourse 2 and Lake Boga 1, with spectators most welcome to come and watch.

Tuesday saw some great bowling in the midweek pennant finals at Swan Hill, with some very close games going right down to the wire on our greens that were in top condition.

Teams continue to come in for our fundraising tournament for the MRI Machine at Swan Hill Health, with the tournament being held on Sunday, March 23, with details in the club house or by contacting Bill King on 0428 324 083.

Club games are also progressing well, but bowlers are urged to keep their games up to date.

Saturday Pennant Teams – Saturday, February 15 – Semi Finals

First Semi Final – Division 2 – Team 2 v Racecourse 4 at Murray Downs – J. Thompson, (Manager) F. Burge, S. Meehan, S. Tompsett; V. Plumridge, G. Clark, T. McDonald, R. Field; R. Poole, L. Tompsett, M. Balchin, R. Dorigo. Emergency – B. Dickenson.

TOOLEYBUC

THE last round of home and away games was played last Saturday, with Tooleybuc playing at home against ladder leader Murray Downs 3.

A very determined Tooleybuc side took to the greens in very trying conditions in the hope of having a win and securing top position.

Murray Downs 3 got away to an early lead on Tooleybuc and went into the half time break in front, with some very good bowls being played during the game as Tooleybuc fought hard to change the lead.

At the end of the game, Tooleybuc won on two out of the three rinks, with D. Adams’ team going down by eight shots.

This margin was covered by A. Adams’ team, who won by six shots and A.S mith’s team, who with a great comeback, won by five shots, with the final result seeing Tooleybuc defeat Murray Downs 3 76-73 and claiming top position – well done to all players.

This is the first time in many years that Tooleybuc has finished on top of the ladder, which is something the team has been striving hard to achieve.

Let’s hope that this good form continues into the finals, which will tomorrow see Tooleybuc once again play Murray Downs 3 in the second semi-final at Racecourse, with a 1.00pm start.

Let’s go Tooleybuc, play well and finish strong to secure the first spot in the grand final.

Saturday Pennant Teams – Saturday, February 15 – Semi Finals

LAKE BOGA

THE last round of home-and-away games for weekend pennant bowls saw three of our four pennant teams reach the finals.

Our Division 1 team had a challenge last week to beat top placed Moulamein and needed a win to stay in the finals, as they were one point ahead of Nyah District, who were in fifth place.

After a tough contest, Lake Boga finished on top with two wins and a +9 result helping cement their place in the finals – well done Division 1.

Our Division 3 team had a close match against Manangatang at Manangatang, winning two rinks and also claiming victory overall by one shot.

The game was won on the last bowl of the day, with a very pressured bowl needed by skipper Robin Jolley, which she achieved.

Team 3, Division 4 ladder leaders won against Lake Boga’s team 4, after both teams played each other, which also cemented our position as ladder leaders.

Congratulations to all our teams and we wish them the best of bowling for the finals.

Social bowls winners this week were Lyn Maher, Keith Anderson, Leigh Kingsbury and Ron Atkinson, with two wins and plus 20.

Thanks to all who helped with the working bee around the club last Monday, with another working bee scheduled for next Monday at 8am to work on the greens.
