RACECOURSE

WELL done to the fourth division side last week as they progressed straight through to the grand final.

In Division 2, our Team 4 won last week and will now play clubmates, Team 3, Saturday afternoon to see who can also progress into the grand final.

Our midweek pennant Team 4 will also play in the grand final on Tuesday at the Racecourse Bowls Club.

Wednesday social bowls was won by Graeme Bennett and Helen Frame, with two wins and +16 shots, while in second place, with one win and +3 shots, was Ron Wolfe, Diane Millsteed and Phil Parry, with Ron, Diane and Phil also collecting the jackpot, which totalled $300.

Wednesday night bowls saw Jade Morvell, Maya Treweek and Demi Gardner finish as the winning combination.

Social sheets are on the board for Sharon’s tea on Friday, September 28.

This is our last Friday of the month and incorporates our members’ draw and raffles.

On the evening of Saturday, March 1, we need an idea of the numbers of players and supporters who will be back at the club, win, lose or draw, to celebrate a very enjoyable season of bowls.

On Sunday, March 16, the club presents Doey’s Meats 2x4x2 Any Combination Pairs tournament, which is a one off event where Racecourse club players can nominate their own partner.

Division 3 also won two rinks and were four shots up at the end of play against Manangatang, with Manangatang leading all day until Lake Boga closed the gap and took the lead in the last two ends of the day.

Division 4 lost to Nyah District at home last week but get a second chance at the finals.

Good bowling to all our players and let’s see if we can have three teams playing in the grand finals next weekend.

Social bowl winners this week were ‘Bones’ Smith, Keith Anderson and Ken Hamill, who finished with two wins and plus 11 on a count back from Brian Fowles, F. McQuire and L. Kingsbury, who also had two wins and plus 11.

WELL, the finals are under way and although our division one team was unlucky to make it, our division four team is through to the preliminary final this Saturday.

Unfortunately, our division two midweek pennant team did not get past the semi-final stage.

Sunday, February 23, the club will be hosting our Roy Armistead Day, with 96 players, which should be a good day.

WITH the pennant season coming to an end shortly, we will soon turn our minds to the finals of the State Events for the Murray Mallee Region.

These will take place between Friday, March 7, and Monday, March 10, and will be played at Murray Downs, with a full listing to be available next Friday.
