MURRAY DOWNS

THE Murray Downs medley tournament, held last Thursday, attracted players from Racecourse, Swan Hill, Manangatang, Moulamein, Lake Boga, Tooleybuc, Kerang and of course our Murray Downs members.

Congratulations to the winning team from Kerang, made up of Lorraine and Frank Ritchie and Sonia and Jimmy McLeish.

The runners up from Murray Downs were Peter Furnell, Dawne Holland, Connie Rovere and Mary Johnson, while the resting touchers on the day were won by Carol Smith, Wayne Murray, Elaine Lawry and John Ford.

Social bowls will resume next week at 9am, before reverting to the afternoon in April.

Members on duty for Thursday, March 27, are Ken and Vicki O’Bree.

The Murray Downs midweek Division 1 premiership winning team travelled to Mildura last Sunday and were very successful, winning all three games.

They had a huge win against Woomelang by 70 shots, a closer game against Mildura, with a four shot win and a nine shot win against Barham and will now play in the Regional Championships at Moama in April.

SWAN HILL

SWAN Hill Bowls Club’s MRI Fundraising tournament is on this Sunday, March 23, and it is countdown time to get your entry in.

There is only room left for a limited number of teams and the deadline is 9.30am Sunday, unless full beforehand.

The day is promising to be good weather wise and all who have entered are looking forward to assisting in raising funds for Swan Hill Health’s MRI machine.

The any combination three bowl triples event starts at 1pm, with teams and single entries accepted at $15 per player.

First, second and third prizes will be awarded, plus some novelty prizes, with entries to Bill King on 0428 324 083, the Swan Hill Bowls Club on 5032 1772 or by entering on the notice board.

Members please provide a plate of afternoon tea, which will be after the second game between 3pm and 3.30pm.

This is also when the raffles will take place and there are some amazing prizes up for grabs, which have been donated by local businesses and members.

We encourage those who are unable to bowl to still come along for afternoon tea and take part in the raffles, with donations also gratefully accepted.

Friday Frolic will be on again this afternoon, with the weather forecast to be a pleasant 26 degrees.

Enter by 2.30pm for a 3pm start, with everyone welcome to join in, be you a regular bowler or someone wanting to give bowls a try, with bowls available at the club.

The jackpot is nearing $200, with all who enter having the chance of sharing in the jackpot.

Following Friday Frolic, presentations will be made to the winners of the club games and after the presentations, there will be a barbecue as recognition to players and the end of the season. Bowlers, partners and families are invited to take part in this social time at the club.

Please put your names on the sheet on the notice board if you are planning on attending for catering purposes, or ring the club.

This is not the end of bowls, however, with Friday Frolic continuing ahead of our Easter and May Carnivals, which are fast approaching, with entry forms available at the club.
