RACECOURSE

Jackpot bowls at Racecourse was well attended this week, with 35 bowlers attending, including visitors from Willunga in South Australia and Diamond Creek.

The winners for the day were David Jonkers, Helen Frame and Phil Parry, with two wins and +14 shots, while the runners-up with one win and +8 shots were Neville Smith and Peter Holland.

The jackpot number was 19 and three visitors were successful, with each collecting $100, with John Hodge from Willunga, Tina Doyle from Diamond Creek and Lindsay Toomer from Murray Downs going home happy.

If the weather is fine, we will hold our Anzac Day, RSL mixed triples event, which will start at 1pm, with an Anzac service at 12.30pm, with a barbecue tea following the presentations.

Special mention to Hank Van Der Veen, Helen Frame, Dawn Doran and Bryan Bice who all had wins at the Easter tournament, with Helen winning on all three days, including twice with Hank and Dawn, and also with Bryan – well done everyone.

SWAN HILL

The Swan Hill Bowls Club hosted visitors from Willunga, South Australia, north Western Australia, Merbein, Tooleybuc, Racecourse, Murray Downs and Swan Hill over the three days of a very successful Easter Carnival, with the weather most favourable for outdoor activities.

Eighteen teams contested the any combination, three bowl pairs on Good Friday, with the winners being Hank Van Der Veen and Helen Frame from Racecourse Bowls Club.

The runners-up, also from Racecourse, were Graeme Bennett and Rod Wardle, while third place went to Swan Hill’s Jim Thompson and Graeme Clark.

The Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal benefitted from the spinning wheel proceeds to the tune of $195, with many thanks to all those who donated.

The winners from Easter Saturday’s 12 teams was again a Racecourse side consisting of Hank Van Der Veen, Dawn Doran and Helen Frame.

The runners-up were Glen MacIntosh, Graeme Bennett and Bob MacIntosh from Racecourse, with third place going to Norm Smith, Kevin Vivian and Marg Smith, also from Racecourse.

Fourteen teams lined up on Easter Monday for the any combination, two bowl triples event after a light shower of rain in the early morning.

The winners were Brian Bice, Dawn Doran and Helen Frame from Racecourse, with Racecourse’s Shane Domaille, Ron Wolfe and Kylie Gardner finishing as runners-up, while Kerry Power, Doug Fisher and Greg Robinson from Murray Downs finished third.

One might say Racecourse teams, and especially Helen Frame, scooped the pool at our Easter carnival.

The Carnival finished with lucky cards drawn on the last day, with lucky lead being B. MacIntosh, lucky second being D. Deighton and lucky skip being L. Tompsett.

Friday Frolic is back in its normal time slot this afternoon, providing the weather is fine.

Names are to be in by 2.30pm for a 3pm start, with all being welcome, regardless of experience, with happy hour drinks, a light snack and Micks raffles going ahead regardless of the weather.

Saturday, May 3 will be the first day of the Swan Hill Bowls Club’s Autumn/May Carnival, with the carnival getting underway from 12pm.

The first day will be teams of men’s and ladies fours, with entries to close on Friday, May 2 at 2pm, for the draw to be done and displayed.

Sunday, May 4 will be a mixed fours event, with each team required to have at least one lady in their team, with entries also closing the day before.

Monday sees a ladies pairs event beginning at 9am, with the men’s pairs to begin at 1pm.
