RACECOURSE

RACECOURSE held its Graeme Hayes Real Estate triples tournament on Sunday in perfect weather conditions.

On Sunday we have our Muston Memorial triples event, with all proceeds going to the cancer foundation.

Bowls starts at 12.30pm, with the barbecue starting at 11.30am and casual dress attire, with names to be in by 11am.

It’s a great fun day with plenty of raffles to be won, with every one welcome from beginners to bowlers.

Our Ash Roberts Homes any combination triples event will be held on Sunday, August 17, with entries to Kevin Vivian on 0427 353 243.

SWAN HILL

LAST Friday saw 34 players on the green vying to win The Bridge in quite pleasant weather conditions.

The successful team to collect first prize was G. MacIntosh, A. Threadgold and G. Bennett from Racecourse, with Swan Hill’s B. Husson, J. Husson and S. Tompsett taking home second prize for the second time in a row.

This Friday will revert back to our Friday Frolic game of 10 ends, commencing at 3pm, but be sure to have your name in by 2.30pm by ringing the club on 5032 1772.

The weather is promising to be perfect for playing bowls and the jackpot is well worth a win, sitting at almost $200.

All are welcome to join in the fun, with visitors set to be arriving for our Classic on the Murray event, which will be held this Saturday and Sunday, so the greens could be busy with bowlers practising.

Come and enjoy happy hour and a light snack after Friday Frolic, while also taking part in the raffles.

The Classic on the Murray has attracted bowlers from all parts of Victoria and even across the NSW border, with 34 teams all aiming to win the prize money on offer.

Spectators are most welcome to come along and enjoy watching some very competitive bowling over the weekend.

Swan Hill Bowls will be holding their RSL Diggers Day/Opening Day on Sunday, August 24, with entry at $15 per player, with teams or single entries

There will be an RSL opening ceremony at 12.15pm, with bowls uniforms to be worn.

This will be an any combination, two bowl triples event, with entries to be placed on the sheet on the notice board or by phoning Bill King on 0428 324 083 or the club on 5032 1772.

Members are reminded that their annual subscriptions are now due and can be paid at the bar.

Finally, it was with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of our esteemed member Brian Richardson.

Brian was a past president, a dedicated club member and a pennant player who would give the most invigorating pep talks to draw the best out of the team.

Successful in several winning premiership teams, Brian attended tournaments at many clubs and played in state events with some success.

Brian will be missed in so many circles by all who knew him and the Swan Hill Bowls members extend our heartfelt sympathy to Julie and Brian’s family.

LAKE BOGA

THE $540 pelican jackpot was claimed by two teams last week, with each player receiving $90, with congratulations going to Arthur Threadgold, Les McPhee, Stuart Tompsett, Eli Neil, Glen McIntosh and Alan Treble.

The winners of the bowls competition, with two wins, were Les McPhee, Arthur Threadgold and Ali Neil, while the runners up were Daryl Barry, Jean Leach and Brian Fowles.

There were five resting touches for the day, with drink vouchers going to Alan Treble, Ray Leach, Alex Smith, Les Grey and Brian Quaife.

Eli Neil, Arthur Threadgold and Les McPhee would have been pleased with their afternoon of bowling, winning both the bowls and the jackpot.

Next week the jackpot will start again at $90.

We welcomed Sue and George from Manangatang for social bowls this week, with Leigh Kingsbury and Danny Kelly winning with a score of two wins and plus 18.

Max Lord and Rod Dewhurst were runners up with two wins also, but with a score of plus three.
