Golf Open to drive up Swan Hill economy

THE 2024 NSW Open Golf is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the Swan Hill region.

Business development manager at Swan Hill Incorporated Stephen Colombo said the influx of visitors to the region would result in a boost to accommodation, restaurants and cafes and retail sectors.

“The influx of visitors through the players, coaches, support staff, and spectators will benefit many local businesses,” he said.

“Local accommodations, restaurants, and cafes should see high occupancy rates, while local eateries will see additional patronage.

“We’re expecting enhanced retail activity as visitors are likely to explore Swan Hill’s shops and services.

“Sporting goods, clothing and our wide range of specialty shops will see increased sales as golf enthusiasts shop locally.”

Another benefit to drawing the premium event is job creation.

Temporary jobs related to event logistics, hospitality, and retail have already occurred, supporting employment in the region. This includes opportunities for casual staff in hotels, cafes, restaurants, and transportation services.

With the event drawing national and international attention, local businesses have the chance to share their brand far and wide.

“With attendees coming from all over the world and televised coverage, local sponsors and businesses that engage with the event gain visibility and great promotional opportunities,” Mr Colombo said.

“This will be felt both during the event and after the event as well.

“The tournament has also provided a boost to local services and suppliers such as catering, transportation, event setup and maintenance.

“Engaging local suppliers and vendors for these services stimulates the regional economy and encourages partnerships.”

“From a big-picture perspective, the event exposes Swan Hill as a golf-friendly location encouraging visitors for future and return visits.

“The NSW Golf Open can also enhance Swan Hill’s reputation as a viable destination for other major sporting events.

“These benefits together create a ripple effect that stimulates the Swan Hill economy, enhances local spending, and supports the region’s businesses and tourism sector.”
