Lakers work hard to extend streak

LAKE BOGA v WOORINEN

Magpies go 12 in a row

Lake Boga have extended their winning streak to 12 consecutive victories following their hard-fought 12-goal win over Woorinen on the weekend.

The win was set up by a dominant second quarter, with the Magpies turning in a 17-goal-to-eight term to open up an 11-goal lead at the main break.

Although Woorinen would fight back after the break, they were unable to bridge the gap, with Lake Boga going on to record a 50-38 win.

It was a full team performance that impressed Lake Boga coach Anne-Marie Stewart.

“We had a good win in pretty average conditions as it was very cold and wet for the girls,” Stewart said.

“We started a bit slow as we have had a good break with byes lately.

“Our team played well and we just focused on our goals and showed our ability to adapt to all conditions.

“Katie (Carmichael), Sarah (Hepburn), Lily (Brennan) and Taigan (O’Shannassy) all played well in attack and created some lovely passages of attack to goal.

“Jemma (Meehan), Emma (Peacock), Montana (Davies) and Taigan all worked hard to shut down their attacking movements in slippery conditions as well and created a number of beautiful intercepts.”

NNW UNITED v SWAN HILL

Swans swim away early

A 30-goal-to-14 first half has helped reigning premiers Swan Hill secure a dominant 35-goal win over Nyah-Nyah West United and extend their stay at the top of the Central Murray A grade ladder for another week.

The Swans were never threatened after opening up a nine goal lead by quarter time in wet conditions, with the Swans slick passing through the midcourt and accuracy in goals a key contributor in the 61-26 win.

“We were pleased with the game, the girls did a great job of adjusting to the change in conditions when it started to rain,” Swan Hill co-coach Madeleine Nalder said post-match.

“We thought Casey (Frame) and Zoe (Morris) combined well and Tess Meney and Stevie Bibby did a great job of slowing their (NNW United) entry into the goal circle.

Despite the loss, NNW United Madi Jones was upbeat after the match, with the Demons struggling to capitalise in key moments.

“It was a really tough day for us, we had some good passages of play but we just weren’t able capitalise on all of our possessions throughout the game,” Jones said.

“We had to fight hard all the way down the court against a really dominant team.”

Hayley Neuschafer and Tess Meney were adjudged best on court for Swan Hill, with Matika Mitchell, Sarah Gaskin and Lucy Millard the better players for the Demons.

TOOLEYBUC-MANANGATANG v KERANG

Blues’ uplift continues

Kerang continued their late season resurgence at the weekend, with the Blues claiming consecutive victories for the first time this season with a 37-goal win over an understrength Tooleybuc-Manangatang.

The Blues opened up a nine-goal lead by the first break, before continuing to dominate the contest on their way to a 66-29 win in wet conditions.

It was a performance that pleased Blues coach Chloe Adams, with her team continuing to improve despite finals no longer being a prospect.

“I’m super happy with the way the girls stuck to our structures and processes, we adjusted quickly and well to the wet weather which allowed us to build across each quarter,” Adams said.

“Our attack end connected well as a whole and the goaler to goaler connection between Denise (Snyder) and Carla (Walker) was fantastic.”

Tooleybuc-Manangatang were again without injured bookends Shania Nunn and Taylah Morris, with the Saints also struggling to control the ball in the slippery conditions at stages.

Kerang were missing wing defence Lily Wise, with Jarni Gilmour and Tara Cordina combining to fill void. Gilmour was one of the Blues better players, along with Snyder and Walker.

For the Saints, wing defence Rhiann O’Meara was named as their best, along with Olivia Fowler, who battled hard opposed to Snyder all afternoon.

BALRANALD v KOONDROOK-BARHAM

Roos cruise to big win

Balranald strengthened their grip on a top-five finish with a dominant 35-goal win over Koondrook-Barham to complete round 14 at Greenham Park on Saturday.

The home side outscored the River Raiders in every quarter on their way to a 63-28 win, with the fourth-placed Roos sitting equal on points with the Mallee Eagles (third) as both clubs search for a top-three finish.

Ella Mirtschin was dominant in goals for Balranald, with the GS shooting 45 of her team’s 63 goals for the game alongside Macy Lloyd.

Koondrook-Barham defenders Abby Paul and Jade McMahon battled hard to be among the visitors’ better players, with Koondrook-Barham coach Grant Matthews acknowledging the pair’s effort post match.

“We missed a few opportunities and we need to do some work on our passing, but our defence worked tirelessly,” Matthews said.

“Abby Paul and Jade McMahon were good, Abby had a tough day against Ella Mirtschin but she stuck to her task and tried her heart out.

“At the start of the game we went goal for goal for the first five or six minutes, which was pleasing, but it doesn’t take long for skilled sides like Balranald to settle and their court craft and skill sets just took over.

“We’ve had good development and have been able to get court time into our younger players this season and the more game time they get, the more composed they will become.”
