KERANG v TYNTYNDER
Teams can’t be separated
KERANG and Tyntynder played out the first draw of the 2024 season on Saturday, with neither side able to be separated after 60 minutes.
Both had their opportunities to win, with the Blues jumping out to a four-goal lead at quarter time, before a poor second quarter, where they scored just three goals for the term, allowed Tyntynder to take a two-goal lead.
The Bulldogs then extended their lead in the third term by a further two goals and looked likely winners at the final change, before Kerang finished the match with a 10-goal final term to share the points.
Tyntynder coach Kelsey Rowe was disappointed to have to share the points, despite the result being further evidence of improvement.
“It was a very tough game, we had moments of great play but just struggled to play our brand of netball consistently for four quarters and were unable to put scoreboard pressure on,” Rowe said.
Tyntynder centre Monica Ellis and Elvie Kelly-Britten were among the Bulldogs’ better players, while Jamison Wise, who shot 33 of the Blues’ 37 goals, was the home side’s best.

NNW UNITED v WOORINEN
Tigers claw first win
WOORINEN were made to work for their first win of the season, defeating NNW United in a hard-fought, four-quarter contest by four goals on Saturday.
While the Tigers led from start to finish, the Demons managed to stay with their rivals throughout in an encouraging performance from the home side, despite a slow start.
NNW United coach Madi Jones was happy with her team’s efforts after half-time.
“We took a bit longer than we would have liked to settle in and play our game,” Jones said.
“The second half of the game we were able to get back to playing our style of netball and were more competitive across the court.”
Taylen Blachford was strong in defence for the Demons, while Matika Mitchell was also among NNW United’s better players, while Woorinen goal shooter Willow Conlan and defender Tess Demaria were consistent performers for the Tigers.

COHUNA v KOONDROOK-BARHAM
Kangas hop away
COHUNA scored their first points of the season after comfortably accounting for Koondrook-Barham by 25 goals on Saturday.
The Kangas increased their lead every quarter, with shooters Delainey Holmes and Kobie McIvor’s accuracy proving problematic for the River Raiders as the match progressed.
Holmes (82 per cent shooting accuracy) and McIvor (91 per cent) were among the home side’s better players, along with goal keeper Ebony Black, who intercepted many of Koondrook-Barham’s attacking-third entries.
While it was yet another loss for the Raiders, there were still plenty of positive signs, including the continued good form of Remy Doyle in the centre, and the strong shooting and attacking presence of goal attack Tlarnee Lake.

SWAN HILL v TOOLEYBUC-MANANGATANG
Swans too strong
A 36-goal-to-13 first half allowed Swan Hill to continue their unbeaten start and claim a 27-goal win over Tooleybuc-Manangatang at the weekend.
The return of Casey Frame in goals provided the Swans with the spark required to jump the Saints at the start.
Quick ball movement caught the young Tooleybuc-Manangatang side out in the first half.
To their credit, the Saints tightened up in the second half, when the Swans only managed to outscore the visitors by four goals.
Summer Blachford was among Tooleybuc-Manangatang’s better players and shot 28 goals, while Saints defenders Taylah Morris and Olivia Fowler combined well in their team’s defensive third.
Casey Frame was dominant, shooting 43 goals for the Swans.
