Bulldogs bark silences Raiders

A SIX-goal haul from in-form midfielder Roy George has propelled Tyntynder to within two points the Central Murray’s top five, securing a commanding 40-point win over Koondrook-Barham at the Alan Garden Reserve on Saturday.

The 12.12 (84) to 7.2 (44) victory was Tyntynder’s third of the season and lifts them to sixth position.

After holding Koondrook-Barham scoreless for the first 30 minutes, the Bulldogs then opened up a 21-point lead at half-time in the difficult and windy conditions.

While the Raiders were still in the contest, they had only managed one goal for the opening half, with the Bulldogs continuing to pile on the pressure after the main break with nine scoring shots to one in the third term to open up an unassailable 49-point lead at three-quarter-time.

While Koondrook-Barham fought back with six final-quarter goals, the damage was already done, as the home side also finished the game in style with four goals of their own in the final quarter.

George was simply unstoppable, with the onballer dominating the game from start to finish on the way to booting a game-high six goals with his ability to not only win the ball at the contest, but break the lines on the outside, earning him best-afield honours.

Also among the Bulldogs’ better players was Matthew Gillbee, Sam Bull and Harry Simpson, along with midfielders Marcus Wattie and Jayden Magro, with the onballers also finishing as Tyntynder’s other multiple goalkickers with two apiece.

Billy Driscoll continued his strong form for his new side to be among Koondrook-Barham’s better players, along with James Martin, Jack Shannon, Jack Thrum, Cambell Davison and Reagan Hamilton, with Hamilton finishing as the Raiders’ only multiple goalkicker with two.

It was a disappointing result for Koondrook-Barham, who only seven days earlier appeared to have turned a corner with a stirring three-point loss to premiership contenders Balranald, with the visitors unable to repeat that same level of effort and attack on the ball against the Bulldogs.

The Raiders have the bye next round, before hosting Woorinen ahead of the King’s Birthday bye, while Tyntynder will face a season defining fortnight, with games against top five teams Woorinen and Tooleybuc-Manangatang.
