THE Mallee Eagles have atoned for their one-goal loss to Cohuna in the previous round, defeating Kerang by 23 goals at Riverside Park.
After a tight first half, the visitors blew the game open in the third quarter by outscoring the Blues 17-4, including eight unanswered goals across a four minute stretch midway through the term.
Mallee Eagles co-coach Alicia Harvey was content with how her side bounced back after last round’s performance, with the Eagles climbing into the top five for the first this season as a result.
“We were all pretty disappointed after our loss to Cohuna last week, so we were determined to come out firing and give it our all against Kerang and that’s exactly what we did,” Harvey said.
“The loss last week was disappointing, but I’m not sure we would have played how we did on Saturday if we didn’t have that close game last week.
“Kerang are a strong side and have us covered with height on both bookends, but I think all seven of us on the court were able to slightly change our game individually to how each opponent played while still playing our own game.”
Eagles goal attack Kasey Torr was named as her team’s best player, and wing defence Leah McKenzie impressed, while young Kerang defender Lily Wise was the Blues’ best on court.
