AN 18-goal-to-five second quarter helped Swan Hill continue their unbeaten start by defeating Cohuna 65-39 on Saturday.
The Kangas came into the match with high hopes after climbing to third on the ladder with a 4-1 win-loss record, but were no match for the reigning premiers, who led from start to finish in the 26-goal win.
Swan Hill co-coach Madeleine Nalder was pleased with her team’s performance post-match, with Zoe Morris (46 goals) once again among her team’s better players.
“We were happy with the win, especially against a good team like Cohuna,” Nalder said.
“We wanted to get away to a good start and I think we did that.
“Our goalers worked well together. Zoe Morris was our best, along with our centre Karli McIntyre, who ran hard all day.”
While disappointed with the final result, Cohuna coach Georgia Anderson said her team would take plenty of positives from the match, with the Kangas now aware of what it takes to compete with the best.
“They (Swan Hill) look like a grand final side, but I’m feeling fine about matching up to them again,” Anderson said.
“We lost it in the second quarter, you can’t afford to have a lull like that and we did.
“We switched Ebony Black to attack and it changed our game and suited better against them.
“I’m happy with our girls and it’s really great to see what we need to do when we come up against them next time.”
Carly Geary was solid in defence for the Kangas, while Marli Easton and Delainey Holmes were also among Cohuna’s better players.
