Swan Hill blanket drive has people in need covered

A DOWNTURN in business hasn’t stopped businesses opening their wallets to a good cause this winter.

In what is set to become a regular event, locals are donating small amounts to the Swan Hill Winter Blanket Drive for weighted blankets and sleeping bags for Mallee Family Care clients.

“No one should have to sleep in the cold and that’s why we’re running our first-ever winter blanket drive,” Rebecca McMahon said.

“I work in disability and support roles and we see a lot of people getting assistance from the government in terms of NDIS and makes you think of others who don’t have access.

“We have some amazing local businesses already on board and we’ll give a shout out to them all.”

Donations are used to buy weighted blankets and sleeping bags for delivery to Mallee Family Care Swan Hill.

“They have a list of people needing them this winter – so it will go straight to them,” Ms McMahon said.

Businesses have so far donated between $20 and $300 for the winter warmers.

In what has been a rough year of consistent lockdowns, the generosity is not going unnoticed.

“It’s been a tough time – everyone’s doing it hard,” Ms McMahon said.

“So it shows we’re community-minded?

“We’re hoping we can make this a yearly thing, maybe amp it up and individual people can donate as well.”

To donate, email becshomeandyardcare@gmail.com.
