Youth encouraged to get engaged with Y-Hubs

POP-UP Youth Hubs (or Y-Hubs) will be delivered through Murray River Council’s Youth Engagement Program (YEP) this week, providing an inclusive space for youth aged 12-17 to make new friends and learn additional skills.

Barham and Moulamein will host the first sessions on Friday October 8, which will run from 3.30pm until 6.30pm and feature physical activities, video games on Play Station 4s, and arts such as painting and music.

“These supervised spaces are designed to appeal to a broad range of interests, while providing valuable opportunities for young people to gain leadership skills,” Mayor Chris Bilkey said.

“Our Youth Engagement Program is all about encouraging young people to come up with the ideas that will help us deliver new initiatives within the community.

“And at a time when our young people have had to remain socially isolated, it is great opportunity for them to attend and start to connect with new people again.”

All activities will be run in accordance with the latest COVID-safe rules and transport options will be available for youth from other towns who want to get involved.

Murray River Council is also looking for volunteers to help facilitate the Y-Hubs in Moulamein and Barham.

“If you’re aged 18-25, are available Friday afternoons, happy to undertake all relevant checks and have a passion for helping your community then please get in touch,” Cr Bilkey said.

More information about the YEP Program and Y-Hubs can be found on council’s Youth Engagement Program pages on Facebook or Instagram.
