THE popular and quirky Forest of Christmas Trees event won’t go ahead this year due to COVID uncertainty.
Families, businesses and community groups each year cleverly and creatively decorate a Christmas tree made out of wire.
The initiative is organised by the Swan Hill Neighbourhood House, with the trees put on display and sold at auction by local auctioneer Noel Watson.
A community group is nominated and benefits from the proceeds.
In the past, decorations have ranged from lollies, native flowers, newspaper headlines, felt, pine cones, baubles and all sorts of creative pieces to produce beautiful and unique masterpieces.
Neighbourhood House acting manager Sarina Kelly said the decision was made not to go ahead with the event this year.
“We would’ve normally called for expressions of interest in July/August from potential beneficiaries to help fundraise/run the event,” she said.
“However, due to the COVID-19 lockdowns around that time and all the uncertainty, the decision was made to not go ahead with it this year.
“Hopefully next year we can see it happening again.”
