Lake Boga scout receives top honour

LAKE Boga man Alex Logan has achieved his Queen Scout Award despite the difficulties of COVID-19 and will be honoured on February 19 alongside Kerang local Allen Veloso.

The two young men will be presented with certificates at Government House to celebrate their impressive efforts.

Mr Logan of 1st Lake Boga Catalina Venturer Unit was involved in a large range of community service and skill development tasks in order to receive this honour in what was evidently a tough period.

Despite moving to Ballarat with his family, conducting meetings and courses online and juggling digital learning for VCE, Mr Logan managed to complete all his badges across the areas of outdoor activities, community involvement, leadership development and personal growth. He completed a level one canoe course, a hike at Kooyoora State Park, and bush walking trails around Ballarat.

For his community involvement badges, he began recycling plastic milk tops, bread ties and cans for prosthetic hands, and completed his Level II First Aid certificate.

Mr Logan also assisted an elderly gentleman with his recovery from a serious operation, and worked in the Lake Boga Community Garden.

To gain his three leadership development badges he completed an online unit management course and was also in the leadership role for six months as unit chair, and for his personal growth badges he studied piano.

On behalf of the Catalina Venturer Unit, Venturer Leader Meg Irvin congratulated Alex on his great achievement.

His examiners included Benji Harrold, Verena Doyle, Carol Webb and Julie Romeo.
