Show Returns

ORGANISERS are hopeful for big crowds as the 108th annual Cohuna Show returns to a two-day format this weekend.

After being severely impacted by Covid last year, the traditional full weekend show schedule is back, with plenty of attractions for the family, from live entertainment to vintage car displays, a petting zoo and even camel rides.

The event will also coincide with the official opening of the Morton Garner Pavilion by Member for Mallee Anne Webster on Friday night.

The pavilion has been modernised with extensive renovations, ncluding polished concrete floors and lighting throughout the building.

Cohuna Agriculture, Pastoral and Horticulture president Tucker Peace said Friday night was where organisers hoped for a big turnout from the local community.

There will be fun for the whole family from 5pm as attractions such as sideshow alley, food and drink stands and a petting zoo, while the dog show will also kick off on Friday night and run through to Sunday.

The Cohuna Kangas will also be running a barbecue on Friday night, while the show girl competition will be decided across four categories for children aged 3 to 16.

There will be live entertainment on Friday, as 17 year-old Swan Hill local Sophie Kelly hits the stage at 6pm. She will be followed by a DJ playing song requests up until 10pm.

The Cohuna CFA is set to make an appearance around 9pm for a demonstration.

“We have a vintage cars display on Friday night,” Mr Peace said.

“There will also be some modern day tractors.

“We are hoping for a big crowd on Friday night.

“A lot of hours have gone into organising, but getting a good crowd makes it worthwhile.

“We are just glad to be back to our normal show schedule.”

Saturday is where the majority of the outside competitions take place as the horse show, poultry and cattle competitions all run across the second day.

Tickets for the show start from $5 and are valid across both days of the show.

Double vaccination is needed for all patrons who are 18+ to attend the Cohuna Show and proof will need to be displayed upon entry or valid medical exemption.
