Garden Party ends on high note

SWAN Hill’s Inner Wheel Club held its last annual Garden Party fundraiser over the weekend in Piangil, as host Jeanette Young and partner Colin are set to move from the area.

The day raised over $3,300 for cord blood research, with more than 100 people attending the event in person, and donations still coming in even after the event.

“That was an awesome amount (of money),” secretary of Inner Wheel Club Swan Hill Lyn Ward said.

“Every year it has been a little bit more.”

The day involved Dutch, silent and ordinary auctions, as well as a spinning wheel with lots of prizes, and food and beverage stalls.

Ms Young believes it was important for events to be held in places like Piangil instead of always in the bigger towns.

“I sort of find that there is a lot of times in Swan Hill where we are always the ones who have to travel, so it’s really nice for our community to know that people are going to come here to support functions, too,” Ms Young said.

Ms Ward says Ms Young, who will be moving closer to family, would be dearly missed.

“She’s going to leave quite a hole in the community,” Ms Ward said.

“She’s been terrific for us… we are going to miss her.”
