Tractor Pull returns to Quambatook

DUST will be sent flying on Saturday as Quambatook readies itself to host the 44th Annual Tractor Pull, the first since 2019.

The action commences at 1pm, when the vintage category takes to the dirt before the modified section roars into life at 3:30pm and will conclude about 10pm.

There are 35 tractors – an increase on previous years – entered into the modified category, however as President of the Quambatook Tractor Pullers Association Tim Betson points out there is a lot more than just the action on the strip.

“We have got catering, kids’ entertainment, face painting, jumping castles, kids’ rides,” he said.

“We have also got a country market as well as a truck and car display.

“We are hoping to get a big crowd, we usually average around 3000 to 3500 people so hopefully we can top that.”

The event had to be cancelled due to COVID in 2020 and 2021, and Betson is excited to be back after three years.

“It is pretty exciting to be back after the last two years,” he said.

“It is nice to be running again.”

For those who are new to tractor pulling, as Betson explains it is a pretty simple sport to get your head around.

“It all comes down to horsepower and pulling the sled as far as you can over the 100m distance,” he said.

“There are diesel tractors, blown alcohol tractors as well as tractors that use unleaded fuel straight from the pump.”

Betson is encouraging anyone who is in the area to come check out the event.

“Come down, it is a great family day and there is plenty for everyone to do.”

Entrants are from far and wide, including two tractors from Queensland and one from Western Australia.

“There are also a few out of South Australia, a couple from Victoria and also a handful from New South Wales.”
