Cooks and crafters impress as show returns

SWAN Hill had an influx of cakes, biscuits, hand crafts and hobby work as the Northern District Agricultural Show made a welcome return.

After two years of cancellations and disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, competitors from Bendigo, Boort, Cohuna, Deniliquin, Echuca-Moama, Kerang, Mildura and Swan Hill turned out in good numbers for the event, which was hosted by Swan Hill District A&P Society Inc.

Spokesperson Janette Davison said organisers were delighted with the quality of the exhibits and the great atmosphere on the day.

The event was opened by Swan Hill Mayor Jade Benham, who captured the importance and heart of local shows through tales of her own experiences and memories of the Swan Hill Show.

Swan Hill District A&P Society secretary Jessica Rue said after hosting the successful event, there won’t be much of a rest for Swan Hill Society members as they start finalising details for the 2022 Swan Hill Show.

“There is a positive feeling amongst the committee members, with plans well on their way to deliver a great show this year,” she said.

“The date is set, Friday September 30 and Saturday October 1, and more information will be available in the coming months.”

Ms Rue said anyone interested in learning about the show, entering or volunteering, can contact the show office on McCallum St, which is open every Wednesday from 9.30am to 5.30pm. Information is also available at www.swanhillshow.com.au and their Facebook page.
