THE iconic Balranald Swing Bridge has recently been reopened to the public after some upgrades to make it safer and more accessible.
The improvements come as part of an $80,000 grant from the Commonwealth Government’s Our Region, Our Rivers funding.
Balranald Shire Council administrator Mike Colreavy said the council was very grateful to have received the funding, and that the upgrades have been well received by the public so far.
“The improvements make the bridge more stable, with a wider 1.8 metre pathway and improved safety fencing, making it disabled friendly and suitable for wheelchairs, pushers, scooters, and companion dogs,” he said.
The bridge crosses over the Murrumbidgee River at Court Street in Balranald, and provides access to a walking track on the other side.
“The walking track has recently been extended and developed,” Mr Colreavy said.
“It’s a really nice, pleasant walking area over there now.”
The swing bridge is now opened again to the public. There will be no official reopening of the bridge.
