Picturesque setting for sips of tea

YOU would be hard-pressed to find a better location for a morning tea than the Lake Boga Community Garden.

But that’s exactly where locals found themselves chatting and sipping over tea as part of the annual Biggest Morning Tea cancer charity event.

The national fundraiser for the Cancer Council allows community groups to get together and enjoy a morning tea whilst raising funds for important cancer research.

Tonya Arnett and Sue Donnelly were two of the major organisers alongside Tracy McLoughlin.

“It has been highly successful,” Ms Arnett said.

“I was only expecting the Lake Boga community garden ladies and a few of their friends.

“But we’ve had people from Kerang, Swan Hill, Murrabit and even travellers passing through town.”

Two male travellers spoke about their experiences with cancer and stressed the importance of regular check-ups.

“Everyone looked like they enjoyed it and we had lots of donations given to us to raffle,” Mrs Donnelly said.

“It wasn’t a big fundraising event for us.

“We have a lot of people who are in the older age bracket and we were very conscious of that and so we wanted participation primarily.”

In total 50 people attended the Mad Hatters themed morning tea.

“It is to bring them together as a group because they have been stuck in COVID for the past two years,” Ms Arnett said.

“They have been very isolated and not been able to do this type of social activity.”

The morning tea raised $381 for the Cancer Council.
