Junior firies shine at state titles

ELEVEN junior fire brigade members from Swan Hill attended the junior volunteer fire brigade urban state championships in Mooroopna recently.

A total of 49 teams from across the state competed at this year’s event.

Swan Hill had two teams represented in the Under 14 division and one team in the Under 17 division.

All teams achieved great success, with many of their runs clocking up personal best times for the year.

The Under 14 Swan Hill A side had an exceptionally successful weekend, placing second in the striking first and second disc event, second in the two-man marshall event, second in the two-man Y event and placing fourth overall in the Under 14 aggregate.

The Under 14 Swan Hill B team (who were combined with Werribee for all four-man events) placed second in the four-man Y event.

Overall, the Swan Hill team finished sixth in the grand aggregate for the state.

The team coaches and junior co-ordinator were impressed by the great sportsmanship and camaraderie the kids demonstrated throughout the course of the weekend.

After day one of the championships, the Swan Hill juniors also participated in CFA’s Chief Officer and CEOs junior forum, where the juniors were able to have their voices heard around how CFA can be more inclusive for junior members and speak directly to the CFA chief executive, Natalie McDonald.
