Balranald meets its fire brigade

Phoebe Doyle

BALRANALD’S Fire and Rescue station opened their doors to the local community last weekend as part of a statewide event.

Balranald Fire and Rescue deputy captain Kaitley Linnett said about 40 people came to have a look at the station and meet their local firies.

“We had showbags for the kids, balloons, the fire pumper and ambulance on display, a free sausage sizzle, and tours of the station throughout the day,” Ms Linnett said.

Ms Linnett said the day was important to show locals the job Fire and Rescue does.

“It’s to highlight the important role we play in the community,” Ms Linnett said.

“Not many people know what the various services are that we provide to the community.”

Ms Linnett and the Balranald firefighting team are on call 24 hours, attending road accidents, assisting ambulance crews and rushing to fire alerts.

The Balranald Fire and Rescue brigade is looking for new recruits. To find out more, head to the Fire and Rescue NSW Station 212 Balranald Facebook page.
